Clubsport 8.5 Pure White with Warmenau wheels
« on: 22 October 2025, 08:44 »
Hi all,

Picked up this Clubsport about 4 weeks ago as a pre-reg, spec below;

Pure White
Vienna leather
DCC
Warmenau wheels
Area View
Sunroof

Me and the wife love the car, I did wonder though, has anyone with a Clubsport noticed significant changes in steering, switching from Comfort to Sport? To me they feel pretty similar.

Congrats PAS, that’s a really nicely specced car . I’d have chosen that colour and wheel combo myself.

I ran a mk8 Clubsport for 3 years and since then have had a brace of R’s. In my experience there’s a marked difference in steering weight between the modes so I’m wondering if maybe the dealership have inflated the tyres to the factory PSI which is very high in an 8.5. Other members have dropped the air pressure a smidge and found improvements in ride quality as a side bonus.
If it’s not air pressures in the tyres then maybe start a separate thread in the general mk8 section as this part of the forum doesn’t get much traffic.

Great looking car, I do like those wheels but went for the queenstown.

What tyres did you get on your car?
Reading what you said has made me think I have not noticed a difference between steering weight.
I do like the steering weight on the car compared to my MK 7.5 R, but wondering as Exonian says if it’s pressures or the Hankook tyres I have.
On Order - Mk 8.5 Clubsport Pure White, Queenstown, DCC.
MK 7.5 R Pure White, Pretoria Silver, DCC, Rear Camera.
Gone - MK 7 GTI Carbon Grey, Rear Camera, Service Pack.
Gone - MK 6 GTI  Reflex Silver, Monza Shadows, RCD 510, Rear Camera, Bluetooth, Tyre Pressure Sensor, Xenons Convenience pack, Service Pack :)
Gone - MK 5 GTI Reflex Silver, Monza II 18's, Luxury Pack, Mulitchanger

Thanks Exonian, will check the pressures and see if it makes a difference. The weight feels pretty heavy in comfort, I used to have a 7.5 Performance and steering was relatively light in comparison but thinking can/should I compare steering weights between those two cars as obviously different mk and variants.

Thanks JamesR27, I actually reserved a fully loaded Crystal Ice Blue standard GTi but apparently someone else pipped me to signing on the line for it, that had Queenstowns which I really like. Luckily this Clubsport showed up the very next day so went for it all guns blazing :). This one has Bridgestones on

Great looking car! I tried switching between sport and comfort today to see the difference (had steering in sport since purchased) and have to agree, I can't tell much difference albeit I was in traffic so only at slow speeds. My 7.5 though was much more obvious. Perhaps it is a software gremlin?

Cheers Watts! How does the steering feel at slow speeds in traffic in Comfort? To me that's when it's quite noticeable how heavy it feels, especially doing slow manoeuvres. I presume you go straight for individual/sport mode before you start driving to always have sport steering?
