Wind deflectors

Has anyone fitted wind deflectors to their 8.5 GTI, and if so how do they look? Any other tasteful mods?

Are you talking about those (usually black) plastic things that you occassionally see on people's front windows?

Pictures of a white mk8 with wind defectors fitted at the link below. Hopefully good enough to give you an idea of what they’d look like on a 8.5 GTI, bearing in mind the mk8.5 is effectively a mild facelift of the mk8.

I don’t know if it’s an issue with the mk8 and mk8.5, but I remember reading somewhere that with the previous generation (mk7 and mk7.5) Golf, the fit of some brands of wind deflectors is better than some other brands; with the mk7 a mk7.5, the car door mirrors could make contact some brands of wind deflectors when the car doors are locked and mirrors fold in.

I’m personally not a big fan of them, but we all like different things which IMHO is a good thing .

I don’t think wind deflectors could ever be described as remotely “tasteful”
They utterly ruin the lines of the car.
Not that I have a strong opinion on the subject or anything…

Tasteful mods? Well, it depends on your taste.
Door sill protectors? Nicer floor mats? Door mirror covers? Tinted strobing door mirror indicators? Sunvisor stickers? These are all subtle.
Different wheels if you’re on standard 18’s (with a more aggressive offset)?
Different rear diffuser if it’s a standard 265 GTI?

Not a fan either. They're a bit Halfords and also they tend to be fitted to every JDM import (loads of them here in Ireland). I don't think they look well. I'm sure they put extra strain on the window opening mechanism too.

So does that mean you won’t be getting a set of wind deflectors for your new R then Mr Ex?

As for mods, I’ve only ever changed diamond cut alloys for something that’s not diamond cut and swapped out the standard carpet mats and replaced them with more durable rubber mats.
