Those prices are surprisingly low to me… £250 for a single stage paint correction *and* a ceramic coating is very cheap, even if it’s only a “1 year” coating. Especially when it’s only £100 of that for the correction. If this isn’t a retailer you know of and have seen results from, I’d be asking around for people’s recommendations. A lot of places offering cheap ceramic “coatings” are actually only offering a ceramic sealant rather than an actual coating.
For reference, the detailers I use are around the £350 mark for a paint correction without the ceramic. For a proper ceramic coating you’re looking at adding a good amount extra.
100% agree with this the coatings themselves are very expensive and those prices a very cheap any detail with coating under 300 ish i would steer clear of tbh.
No disrespect but if did a quick Decontamination, an then I ran over your car with my DA and sprayed with auto finnesse aquacoat say and rinsed and dried,
Then charged you 250 quid and told you I had ceramic coated your car with a 2 year coating and done a full detail your wouldn't be any wiser tbh!
Did they even say what the coating was?
The OP also confirmed the prices were for the detailer’s mobile service - I’d personally not want my car ceramic coated with it parked outside where it could pick up airborne contaminants after application of the products and before they were fully cured. IMHO ceramic coating really needs to be done in an enclosed building where the car is protected from the elements and the ambient temperature can be controlled during the curing process. Also, isn’t the complete process for ceramic coating a car usually spread over two days? - pre-wash, wash, decontamination, second wash, paintwork correction, application of coating on day one, curing overnight and buffing off / finishing on day two?
As @The_Doc has said, it’s likely the detailer is actually applying a ceramic sealant rather than a ceramic coating, especially if the longevity of the product is 12 months (I’d expect a ceramic coating to have a longevity of more than 12 months).
@MarkHowells; if it is a ceramic coating that you were hoping to get, then maybe get the detailer to clarify whether it is a ceramic sealant or coating they’ll be applying and what the products actually are (brand, product names). Also, if you’ve not already done so, it might be worth doing some research on other detailing companies in your area and getting some alternative comparative quotes for a) having your car ceramic coated b) having a correction detail, including application of a ceramic sealant.
