Thanks guys,

Getting the train to Bristol from Chelmsford, and hoping for a cracking drive home.

I'll be popping to DMS automotive, in the coming weeks to for a stage 1, and that's where it'll stay. Just want a little extra punch, and flexibility.

It drove so well. I wasn't sure what to expect, but given it's heritage, and die hard following, I wasn't disappointed.

It may need the maps updated, as it has the SD card with it, but unsure when it was last done. Guessing that won't be cheap through VW.

If I can get my images correct, i'll post up some pictures Wednesday evening....
If it is 2016+ with the MIB2 head unit, don;t bother with the map update, just get Android Auto (or Apple Carplay) enabled. You'll never use the built on maps.
Then grab a cheap wireless adaptor from Aliexpress etc and you don't even need to worry about connecting your phone!

It's got the Discover Pro system, though I have no idea on version type or if it a MIB2 unit.

congratulations on your purchase!

On the service plan, I previously purchased a Gti that was newer which had the service pack from new, as this was paid up in advance I was able to use it as the new owner.
The service plans are with VW financial services, rather than a specific dealer usually, so you can service it at a VW dealer near to you.

However, I currently have a 2 years service pack which I pay monthly. This can only be transferrred to a new owner if it is fully paid up, when i enquired VW would not let the new owner take over the monthly payment.
In the paper work there should be an invoice for the service pack, you can always call VW financial services with the contract number to confirm the status if there is any doubt.

Good luck..

Cool. Once I get all the book packs together, I'll see what the score is. It was a previous VW employee company car, so maybe it's been paid up (Fingers crossed)

On the subject of oil - Is 5W-30 the oil of choice. Looking on Opie's, it's either Castrol or Mobil1 for me. It won't be longlife servicing either. It's been serviced every 10,000 miles, so I'm happy to continue this.

Also, is this silica bag thing, an issue on petrol cars? I have no idea if my tank has the wording on it, that i've been reading about.

I expect it will have the bag, if the expansion tank has ‘Mit Silikat’ written on it, definitely will have, easy enough to remove (clamp hoses if you do in situ) or change the tank as I did.
I change my oil every 6 months and use Millers Nanodrive 5W 40 on recommendation of local specialist.Unless you know it’s been recently serviced I’d get the DSG and LSD serviced as well for peace of mind.

You can buy updated/current satnav SD cards online. You send them your card and they send you an updated one. A fraction of a new VW SD card when I updated 2 yrs ago.
I think you can also update via a laptop download but I only work with an i-phone and i-pad.
Anyway, cheap updates are available.

Make sure the heater blows hot before you drive it home, common issue with Mk7s, and an expensive fix if no warranty.

Enjoy!

A friend of mine has just picked a 2014 PP GTi, Red 5 door too.
It has the larger screen and upgraded infotainment too.
I'm wondering if it is possible to retain the screen and just change the glovebox unit to a later one for Carplay/AA ?

Just ordered a Europe 1 V20 2025 updates for £49 from SatNav world. Fingers crossed it’s ok and easy to install.

A few bits to respond to -

I've downloaded the maps, but having done some research on the Discover Pro, it has apple car play and android auto enabled. So maybe don't need the maps, from VW.

I remember ordering Audi maps from a popular navigation website, name escapes me now, and they were a nightmare for the car to accept.  I'm wary now of aftermarket stuff like that, because I was reading things like 'bricking' the MMI, in my old A7.

Thankfully, didn't happen, but Google maps or Waze is going to be better, purely because of live updates, whereas the car maps, will just take you on the quickest journey, with no route updates.

The car had its latest DSG done 19k ago, so within spec for this, by Gloucester VW.

Haldex, I don't belive it has, due to not being 4WD.

I'll keep an eye out for the bag, and if it's in there, will just swap the bottle. Knowing my luck, it'll split and and then cause me lots of issues lol.

It was blowing proper hot air, when I drove it. Was really uncomfortable lol. But the temp was on 26 C....OMG.

I've ordered Mobil1 5W-30 oil and filter from Opie Oils, so will see how I get on, once it goes in the car.

The haldex will be required for the differential which is standard for your performance pack.
