Thanks guys, the wait for delivery on Wednesday feels like forever.
Well, got it now and had to drive it very carefully for the first few journeys so that I can get familiar with not having to use a clutch (never driven a DSG before).

Took it for a blast today. I know it's been 4 years since I sold my mk7.5 PP, but OMG it is quick and precise. Have tried out the drive and sport DSG settings and comfort and sport mode on various roads including country lanes and I am very impressed.

Spent hours setting it up and customising it for my needs and even though I vaguely remember what some of the settings are for, I did find it a bit annoying that there is no paper manual for it.

Generally very much pleased and impressed with it but can't help wondering why the infotainment screen is so big and why there are a couple of rattles in the car (had the same issue with the rattles in my 2020 Audi A3 Edition 1) and I am guessing that it is due to the increased use of thinner plastic materials.

I came from a manual 7.5 GTI and the DSG does take a bit of getting used to, even though I have had one before. I am ok with the screen size, but its a phaff to have to turn off the annoying lane assist every time you get in the car. It is obviously not a thing with all new cars as I recently hired a brand new Corsa on holiday and I soon found the lane assist could easily be permanently turned off via a button.

The online manual (via MyVW) is very vague about what the driver profiles (eco, comfort, sport) actually do (I think there is detailed info online buried in a technical VW website?). Most select Individual mode as that at least gives an idea of what you are changing. However, again annoyingly, the car will default back to comfort when the ignition is switched off; something that didn't happen with the mk 7.5.

I may be wrong!? But unlike my old 8, i believe my 8.5 did start in sport last time I used it, I usually leave the car in comfort so haven’t noticed either way, and presumed it defaults back to comfort, but having used it in sport and then parking it, I noticed it was back in sport once I drove the car later🤷‍♂️, I’ve not checked if it will do that again yet. I’m guessing I did something without realising though.

EDIT: Ok, so this is still not the case, I must have changed it by accident! It definitely still defaults to comfort mode after restart.

I set up individual mode to suit my needs but noticed that every morning when I start it up it defaults back to comfort mode.

I wonder if there is a setting somewhere where you can configure the default mode?

No unfortunatly the default cannot be altered, I don't think it could even be coded on the Mk8, all to do with emissions standards as far as I can make out.
