This 'discount business' is evidently still a bit of a (postcode) lottery, with a possible 'loyal customer' factor thrown in. It would be interesting to know what sort of discount you could get for straight cash (no trade in). I suspect very little so the old trick of taking the finance and paying off the whole amount in a few weeks would still be the smart option if you have a large pot of money. If the RRP was more than £40k, you could then put £2k of the money saved to one side () to pay for the extra road tax between years 2-6! However, it would probably still pain you when the annual tax demand drops through your letter box

As for a possible loyalty discount, I recently rang the dealer I bought my GTI from 2 years ago. Yes, they have the sale records, but both the guys I dealt with (one sales, one finance) have both "moved on". Fairly typical for a main car dealer business.
I went in to my local dealer, who I’d never bought from before. I had the DtD quote scribbled down on the back of an envelope. Said I was calling them back at lunchtime, and if they could get within a couple of hundred quid I’d get my credit card out for the deposit.
I think if they know you know the numbers and have done your research you’ll likely get a better deal. If they can pull the wool they will, and present you with the monthly payment as the main figure

That is essentially what I did too, except after getting the quote from drive the deal, I first went to a rival VW dealership nearby, I had no intention in buying from them, but they had a reasonable stab at getting as close as they could, I then went to my preferred dealer who I’d already booked an appointment with, they beat the other dealer and got close enough to DTD, plus I can collect the car myself instead of it being driven 150 miles to me from Yorkshire had I used DTD.

Urano Grey...when you have an option of descent metallic Dolphin Grey ?  :undecided:

You’re correct, After some further deliberation, and seeing Dolphin, Urano and Moonstone lined up together on some Mk8 Rlines at a local dealership, I have now changed the order to Dolphin. 👌
Urano actually takes on a slight green tint when in full sun, which didn’t look particularly good to me.

It's great to hear you've made the right choice  I've had a Dolphin Grey color for almost three years now. It looks so great, but, to be honest, I'm a little tired of keeping it clean. So the next one would probably be Kings Red or Moonstone Grey. I believe Kings Red looks decent with the updated front optics and red fangs, though I'm not a big fan of how Kings Red looks when it's dark outside.

Yes indeed, I originally intended to get a Dolphin Mk8, but the Kings Red one came up at a decent price with the right spec, I wouldn’t get Kings Red again though, very difficult to keep looking good, just a hint of dirt and it starts to look not so great, it can even look a touch pink once dusty!I actually prefer it once the sun starts to set, it looks a lot deeper in shade at that point. had moonstone been a little bit darker however, I’d have probably gone for it, as it should be a doddle to keep looking great, and swirls etc shouldn’t really be an issue

Yeah, I recently noticed dirty Kings Red Arteon during a cloudy day, and it almost looked pink..
I'm not a fan of Kings Red during a heavy cloudy day or sunset probably because I'm a big fan of Tornado Red, and Kings Red almost looks like Tornado Red only when it's sun outside  Other times, Kings Red could look a bit "deep red/cherry", which I'm not a big fan of, though still have to admit how great 8.5 GTI looks in that color (not 8.5 Clubsport, that one looks too fussy for my taste)

Pretty good price that. The thing that put me off using DTD, was the fact that the dealership that is providing the cars at that rate is located in Yorkshire, for me that would have meant the car would have been a driven delivery of 150 miles, at that point I wouldn’t regard it as a new car, they also wouldn’t entertain a trade in unfortunately. My local dealership got pretty darn close to that mind you.
