Great photo's - thanks J3!

A big ask I know, but do you have a guide or write up please, perhaps also covering the tweaks requires with VCDS?

Great set of pics, thank you. Wow, what a lot of work, can see why cost to retrofit at a specialist is priced as it is. As others have said, pleased I specced miy R  new.
Must say. Not had a Rear Camera before, but find it Sooo handy.   Would buy again and would consider 360 Degree View and Parking Assistant and Rempote parking facilities.
I’m a Wheelchair user now getting tired of inconsiderate, selfish….just poor/bad parking.  Even on this yellow slatted areas bordering Disabled bay at a Hospital yesterday.   And they are NEVER just 5 minutes.  Grrr.

Epic job and I wish I had the stones to tackle a job like that.

I actually got some quotes for getting one fitted and best I could get was £550 - so it was a no for me!

As someone else said you could probably make a few hundred quid per one fitting a few of these.

Hey J3
Great detailed install, in thinking of installing the same camera, was wonder, what you used for coding, also do you have coding list that you can help me with.

Thanks

Module 5F

Change vehicle function list BAP-VPS 0x0B to Activated

Vehicle function list BAP-VPS 0x0B msg Adjust bus to CAN-FAS or Terminal 15

Adjust parking system input to 1392x656

Function configuration unit adjust RVC video input to Ethernet

Module 19

Long coding

Byte 20

change to RVC Compact smart

Installation List

Check both cameras 6C

This is the coding for it. I got it coded using obd11 pro. As vcds couldn't do it because of some issue with module.

I'm thinking of tackling this myself. Just a few queries first if you don't mind!

Is it possible to code this with genuine VCDS, or is there an access or security issue still with MK8's?

Any tips on where to buy from? Do they always come with the loom and instructions etc?

Any tips on removing the boot hinge rubber/plastic boots without snapping them?!

Cheers.

Hi not been on in a while, vcds apparently can't code them because sfd protection, so I did buy a obd11 to code it.  I ended up removing the camera as I was sent a left hand drive camera so got my Money back and I left the loom in for future fitment of the correct one. The AliExpress cameras seem to be good I have been checking eBay ect for one to pop up. I did buy a rear camera from vmodul for my Tiguan and that came with loom instructions ect https://vwmodul.com/product/rear-view-camera-for-vw-golf-8-right-hand-drive-version-8ar/?cn-reloaded=1
As for the grommet I would recommend trying to remove it warm ie get some heat to it like hairdryer or something to prevent breakage, I luckily had one I bought for my twiggy which was same part. I've just not got round to fitting a new camera yet but when better weather arrives it's on my list.

Thanks very much, appreciated.

Sorry, just a few more questions!

How did you remove the pins from the large gateway plug? Pin removal tool?
How should the power connect to the fuse box?
Installers are suggesting that the camera should be calibrated in addition to the coding. This can apparently be done prior to installing. Any thoughts?
Is the SFD lock something that can be removed with OBDEleven permanently, meaning that my VCDS will then work?

Thanks again.
