When you lift off after accelerating it will put it in Neutral to coast... very disconcerting if going down a slope as you lose any engine braking so what you might save in fuel you spend on dabbing the brakes to stop the car running away especially in traffic.

ECO mode also does some other useless things like disabling the corner lighting and turning down the air con output.

I know its all energy use and the only place the energy comes from is petrol but I think you'd be lucky to see a quid back from doing it all year.

Isn't coasting also in Normal mode on a DSG car? It is on the Mk8....

That's very true and I should've been able to work that out from the eco options in the drive mode configurator. Having said that, I was never sure what "Eco" mode for cornering lighting, for example, would do!

I'm still confused about why the gear indicator shows something different when in eco mode off the throttle though. What can it possibly be doing extra over the normal mode?

I never had a DSG Mk7, but on the Mk8 when its doing coasting you get an icon up on the dash and you also see the revs drop to about just over 1k... it comes out of coasting if you either accelerate or brake and as I said it does it in normal mode (but not sport)
Current: Mk8 GTI DSG, Adelaides, DCC, HUD, HK, Winter Pack, Rear Camera.. Aka "HMS Weasel"

Gone: 2017 Mk7.5 GTD,manual, NavPro
Gone: 2014 Mk7 GTD, manual, NavPro, DCC

no doesn't do it in Normal mode. Coasting only activates in Eco mode.
