On the topic of BMW’s, I had an F40 M135i and the build was flawless. I drove a couple more launch cars and the same was true.
There are no less than 3 new M3’s on my estate plus a couple of 330e’s and they all look pretty spot on as far as casual once over goes - so much for there being no money around!
And back to VW’s and current market conditions. A couple emailed offers were sent to me recently regarding in stock new Golf R’s, one being a blue 20 years edition and one a blue R with a few nice extras. Both cars in different dealerships and both wanted £20k to change up from my two year old GTI Clubsport. Err, no thank you, I’ll put up with the bongs thanks. Both cars were sold almost immediately afterwards for circa £48k- £50k. So much for there being no money around…
When they're properly built they're great, but the electric models are being built in China, which means abnormally soft paint and lots of defects. Where proper BMW's typically have very high quality 'hard' paint' that doesn't scratch without a lot of abuse. So they've gone from tough & thick paint (150-170 microns) that requires very aggressive compound to fix to extremely thin paint at 80-90 microns that you have to polish with water or you'll burn through it.

Back to VW, it's mental money for a golf now. A friend is looking for a mk7.5 GTD and there are so many still at £25k for a 2018 car. Found him a perfect one but the dealership isn't responding due to Easter, and I think it will have sold by the first day they're open again.
