That looks like the exact same issue they have on the ID4.
Closing the door smashes the glass lens on the puddle lights.

Quite a few Cupra owners over on seatcupra.net forum have also had this issue. It’s been suggested on that forum that it might possibly be the heating function of the door mirrors that causes the projected image to become distorted.

Why do VAG feel the need to fit these seemingly fragile image-projector puddle lights? - IMHO a case of form over function. The old style puddle lights with conventional bulbs on the mk6 and mk7 Golfs seemed to work just fine without issue.

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

This is a hugely common fault and my understanding has been that it's caused by water ingress, causing the film over the LED bulb to slowly disintegrate. The lenses are not glass (they're plastic) so its not likely to be caused by slamming the doors and neither is the heating element in the mirror likely to be the reason (the bulb is nowhere near close enough to the heating element in the glass).

If warranty isn't an option, they're relatively inexpensive to buy (about £30-£35 per side) and if you're reasonably handy DIY-wise, it's not too difficult a job. Anyone who has swapped their mirror caps themselves for example would have no difficulty doing it.

Funnily enough, I looked at mine this morning on the garage floor and was planning to put pics up later.

Both of mine are much worse than that as the lights are partly now on the car doors and hardly have the 'golf ball' effect at all.  I thought they had moved/become misaligned but it could also be due to broken glass.  (Edit:  Following JoeGTI's post - they must have disintergrated!)

Here's mine. This is the passenger side but the driver's side is much the same.  My lease ends in three months so I won't bother with the dealership.  VW, or more likely BCA, can fix it if they want.

Yes indeed, mine actually didn’t look ‘broken’, just didn’t look like the original pattern, if someone had never seen what they looked like originally, they probably wouldn’t notice an issue tbh.
