I'm looking to buy a Petrol Golf Mk7 1.4 or 1.5L TSI (those are direct injection motors) from the years 2016-2018 and with 40,000-50,000 miles on the counter.

I've visited several cars like that at local garages and dealerships. I listened to the sound of those cars engines after started, just idling, they sounded louder and rougher than I had expected.

But I've been told that Golf TSI engines just sound like that because they're direct injection engines, and that there's nothing to be concerned about.

Here are the recordings of the engine sound of two cars I've seen:

Car A: https://youtube.com/shorts/tJokBoIMcTE

Car B: https://youtube.com/shorts/gkzvuhbgP9c

For each of those cars (A and B): Do you think that that engine sound is normal? Or should I stay away from it?

Just based on those sound recordings, a local mechanic told me that one of them sounded terrible, and the other much better. (I won't tell you which is which until later). To my untrained ear, they sound similar. I'm confused.

Thanks!

(For reference, here's what a brand new Golf Mk8 with a TSI engine sounds like on startup: https://youtube.com/shorts/cn57fLeUDeg)

It is difficult to tell from the videos as the recordings are not all from the same location around the bonnet so sound is slightly different especially the mk8 with the bonnet open. The injectors on these engines are loud and slightly different depending on the fuel pressure. Not sure if there is any difference between the 1.4 and 1.5 engines? I personally cannot tell if one of these is in better condition than the other from the recordings.

The injectors in mine have been noisy from new, I did query it with the dealer technician on its first service who said it was normal. The noise disappears as the engine reaches operating temperature and is remarkably quiet inside the cabin.
