headlight wash frequency.
« on: 10 December 2022, 13:33 »
Hi All, can anyone tell me if there is a way to reduce the frequency of the head light washing?

Every time I spray the screen with the lights on the headlights get a good spraying and I am getting through screenwash like there is no tomorrow.

On my last car you could set it to do the lights every 3 or 5 activations.

Many thanks.

Found in another thread,

Coding is the best option (maybe the only one), I have it coded so instead of activating after .2 of a second and then every 4 pulls on the washer it activates after 2 seconds now and 10 pulls on the washer. 2 Seconds is a long time so no accidental triggers and I hardly ever have to refill the washer bottle since doing it.

Maybe someone local will code it for you for some beer money.

Here are the coding channels..

1. Go to [09] Central Electronics
2. STG access permissions -> Function 16
3. Enter access code 31347
4. Go to adaptation channels (Function 10)
5. Select channel 1 - Select "Number of operations front windsceen wiper washer per SRA activation" (in German - Frontscheibenwischer Anzahl Betätigungen Frontwaschanlage pro SRA Aktivierung auswählen)
6. Adjust value to preference (no of times you can operate the windscreen washer stalk before the headlight washer activate).
7. Select channel 3, and adjust the activate time for pulling the stalk to enable headlight washers in the first place.

Many Thanks for that. It is meant to activate the headlight washers for the first time after starting the engine, and then every 10 activations after according to the manual, but I am sure that is happening much more often than that.

It wouldn't be so bad, but it is next to useless for actually cleaning the lights.

Yep, that coding has saved me gallons of screenwash over the years. The washers only come on when I want them to, should be like that from the factory IMO.

Yep, still the same. If I had issues I would have experimented with timings but it is perfect for me.

Carista also lets you set the headlight wash system so that it only washes if the screen washers are used for two seconds, it saved me gallons of screenwahs too.

Does anyone know if they purge themselves at the end of the spray process?
I only ask because during the freezing weather both of mine are slightly popping out of the bumper housing I guess because the washer fluid wasn't quite up to dealing with -9c yesterday.

I don't know for sure, but i don't think they do purge themselves. Otherwise they would take ages to operate after you pull the lever due to the pipes needing to fill back up.

I haven't had issues with mine freezing, but the rubbish neat screenwash was freezing on the screen in temperatures of only -2ºC despite supposedly being ok down to -10

It has come out from the light washers as a liquid and frozen to the outside of the front bumper as well.

I too have adjusted mine so they take more of a press to activate and then repeat less often. OBD11 has apps for both if you have that instead of VCDS.

Before doing that, I just got into the habit of turning my lights to side or off before spraying the windscreen, so that the headlight wash didn't happen.
