Big gearbox fault.
« on: 25 September 2022, 11:44 »
Hello, owned a mk7 pp since new and never has skipped a beat however as cruising on the motorway the other day And could’ve gone quite badly wrong. My ACC went into fault and then big red gearbox fault warning light on dashboard and total loss of power as though in neutral. Got 80 odd thousand miles on the clock and it never happened before.
Anyone got any ideas what this may be? And more importantly how to resolve as do about 2000 motorway miles a month.

Manual or DSG?

You will need to get the fault code read ideally, as it could be a few different things and without the codes you are guessing.

Thanks. DSG took to Volkswagen who said couldn’t read as got a remap. Unsure if that’s true.

If you have owned from new why don’t you know?

VW as usual talking rubbish, any car can be scanned for faults regardless as if it has been mapped. Mine has been mapped for years and OBDEleven and VCDS is used regularly to read codes. More like they don't want to touch it because of the Map.....Assuming it is mapped

Personally I would find a decent Independent as my DSG failed at 60k and I saved literally thousands getting a new gearbox and fitting as dealer rates are extortionate. Avoid main dealers at all costs.

As soon as mine was out of its 3 year warranty, it has never darkened the door of a main dealer. Lucky enough to have a great Indy about 4 miles away, you can’t beat talking to an enthusiast expert that actually works on your car rather than the Service Receptionist that speaks to the Service Manager that speaks to the  Technician that worked on your car, and save a load of ££’s on the hourly rate👍

I'm pretty sure Fergus is unsure if they can't read the code, not if there's a remap.

Has the gearbox been remapped with TVS or similar?
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Nope. Nothing done to gearbox.aware you can get dsg “tune?” too but not done this.
Done some further internet digging. Could it be a mechatronic fault? Will need to get to awesome GTI I think.
