Hello
I own a MK5 Golf Gti. 80K miles. Stage 1. Good car.
Possibly about to buy a Golf R 2018 edition, 20k miles on clock. £27,000 approx.
They'll give me £4,000 for my car.
Do you think this is a good upgrade and worth doing? Some on Reddit saying it's crap car etc. lol. Seem to be idiots on there! Here's some photos of it: https://imgur.com/a/gKNNJcB
Thanks

I really love my mk5 Edition 30 probably more than the mk7 GTI PP, but the mk7 is a much better car it's not even a contest.

Although I will say for £27k I'd be after more options with leather, rear camera and pretorias as a minimum. That's a very good budget for a new car did you consider any other cars?

Mk7.5 GTI - Performance Pack, DSG, Sunroof, Dynaudio, Pro Nav, Vienna Leather, Climate Windscreen & last of the 3 doors....Many Sets of Alloys...

Thanks for reply. As I haven't seen it in person yet, do you think this will come with the rear view camera? I'm a fan of Golfs so not into most other cars. I'd like leather seats, they seem rare to find in newer golfs.

I still enjoy my mk6 gti on 95k  but my mk7.5 is a step up. Not sure you need to get the R. Worth looking at the gti as well as you may get more options for the same price. The car you are looking at looks good though. I personally prefer the look of the gti but may be a bit prejudiced. Depending on condition I would have thought you could get more than 4k for the mk6. Good luck in your search.
Mk6 GTI Carbon Grey, 2010 Bluetooth and voice fitted, a few VCDS mods still a comfortable family car. Red Scirocco 2011 twin charger stage 1 - enjoyable drive now gone.  White 2016 Polo GTI (roller skate on steroids) replaced with an Indium Grey 2019 7.5 GTI PP.

Thanks! Haven't driven the R yet, but it is quite a bit faster than the GTI i think. Looks are average with the R, but with some new alloys it will look good for me, I am 34 so not wanting to look too over the top :D

The R is a great car, but that one does seem a little expensive. WBAC give a trade value of £24,000.

If you are getting finance through the dealer, rates are higher on older cars, especially at supermarkets, so check the overall cost of the car. You could end up paying well over £30k all in, which is not much less than a much newer GTI/PP from a VW dealer. Don't rush in and do your homework.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

So a dealer selling at 27k is about right...

If anything, thats a pretty low margin.

The problem for me, is that £27k on a Golf is big money. Yes, it's a R, so that's nice, but I'd want some spec for that sort of money. Otherwise it's really just another Golf, and quite an expensive one.

I just spent very similar money on my Clubsport. Ok so it's a 7, not a 7.5, but I have no issue with that at all. What I do love is the spec. The sunroof is really nice to have, the discover pro seems really good with its large screen, rear view camera is a must in my opinion, dynaudio is nice, and the seats... oh the seats.

So in my opinion, nice car, fair price I guess but try for better spec if you can.
