Hi Everyone, i have been thinking of purchasing a 2016 GTi Mk7 from Carzam. Is it possible to tell if the car has HID or Halogen lamps just by looking at the lights or other features? (such as headlight washers)

The advert doesn't mention HID's, but then it also doesn't mention heated seats which are obviously fitted...

Post a link of the Ad and we can tell you. It most likely has Xenons though if it’s a UK car.

If it’s a UK spec mk7 GTI, it should have xenon headlamps (standard on UK GTI’s) and ‘U’ shaped DRL’s and the red grille stripe extends into the headlamp units - like the car in this picture;



Some of the car supermarkets in the UK have had batches non UK spec imports for sale at various times that have had halogen headlamps. GTI’s with halogen headlamps also don’t have the red GTI grille stripe extending into the headlamp units. The mk7 GTI in the picture below has halogen headlamps;

Thanks Everyone, the lights look like those on the top car so I am pretty sure that it has HID

Should have washer jets for xenons too...

Thats the easiest way of telling.

I know we are all biased, but looking at those photos, does anyone else think that the MK7 (MK7.5) performance Golfs are still really good looking cars even after 9 years on the road.

Being pedantic, I'm not sure that's a way to tell for sure. Thinking back to the Mk6 when xenons were an option, all GTI/D/Bluemotion bumpers had washer caps, regardless of whether they had washers underneath them or not. It could also be that the Mk7 GTI/D only had one bumper with washer holes in it too.

Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

The mk7 had bumpers with and without cutouts for the washer jets.

If it has washers all that tells you it has washers, iirc they were also on halogen cars with the winter pack.
