2l 16v conversion- what pistons do i use?
« on: 16 October 2005, 23:00 »
Am putting an 8v 9a passat block onto my 16v head but notice the piston tops are quite different- will i have to fit passat 16v pistons?
also noticed i have to swap pulleys, oil pump drive and distributor blank plate etc because its a flipping 8v..

wish id noticed this before buying block and maybe noticed a 16v veedub instead :undecided:

if i do need pistons, any idea of price/supplier? cheers

I don't think it will work at all if the block is 8v & the head is 16v?

If the engine is 9a you dont have a problem!!!
9a engine is actual from 16v Passat/Corrado!

Its a straight swap!

bugger, rubjonny you are damn right- it wont fit  :embarassed:
16v pistons are £106 each...

Rather than take anything else apart, anyone fancy making me an offer?
Bores are perfect, bearing shells are in fantastic condtion too...absolutely gutted

My valver is now sat in the rain with its heart savagely removed

Interesting...am off to London next Thursday (27th), returning Monday eve...driving M4 as A303 aint no fun without a mk2

Would it also help if i said that my 1990 Passat 2.0 8v mule (yep another stoopid buy!) has loads and loads of smooth torque...!!

Might try flogging double glazing next
