Thanks for the tip SRGTD.  I'll take a look around and see what that costs. It'll be a lot more than the saving on a cheap air freshener.   Might even have to buy that top plastic fitting from VW if I can find the part number.

That’s a bugger BillSan.
I’d definitely try and price up a replacement handle if I were you.

I remember a thread many years ago on a different forum where someone had one of those air fresheners that clip to dash vents come off and the liquid spilled on the centre console plastic absolutely wrecking it. That photo then inspired a few other people to post up similar but lesser stories around air fresheners damaging their interiors.

I smell like a princess* so don’t need one in my car…

Found this on Ebay.

Would need someone to fit it as well so I reckon the air freshener will cost me c.£200 unless I can get a repair.

What's the verdict on this then?
Just spray the carpets or just inside in general?

I can highly reccomend the Chemical Guys Nonsense interior cleaner you can use it literally everywhere inside the car amazing product.

You must be able to get the armrest trim on its own? The full door panel will probably have the wrong colour decorative trims and possibly wrong colour LED back lighting too.

Maybe try one of those interior trim repair people instead.

I’d bet that the handle is well and truly moulded to the door card, things like this are usually plastic welded after the tabs are assembled through the rest of the panel, technically could be removed and replaced, but you’d likely need a whole other door card to get the part you need.

Thanks for the tips.  I hadn't even considered the door lighting.  I'll definitely try a repair and I'll let you know how that goes.

This is a GTD door card, but I believe they are identical to the GTI. It would just depend on your cars year as to which fabric it has on the elbow pad and the patch to the side of it.

Thanks Carlos.  That looks a darker shade to the one I linked earlier - I'll need to check against my car but I think mine is the darker one.   Will be looking into a repair first though.
