Autocar review of the R.

Quite a glowing review all things considered.

I’m sure the drift mode will excite the YouTube reviewers giving the car a lot of airing
I guess VW have answered all the “dull to drive unless going flat out” criticisms of the outgoing car.

Still dislike the all touch interior and the narrowed front lights still need adjusting to, but the lower front grille is much improved over the GTI, and the rear spoiler and the seats are actually desirable, and not sure if they the optional 19" but the wheels are on the like list also.

If had to choose a MK 8 it would definitely be the R at this time till facelift is there for review on the GTI. But the R is for me the winner in the looks stakes over its GTI cousin.

The Akrapovic does give the rear end some additional sport presence so be good to see what the standard pipes look like as even though have the Akrapovic myself definitely would not option it as what you get against the ££ still does not stack up for me.

You can probably just buy some third party titananium exhaust tips that would look more sexy for a fraction of £3k and it would not maybe push it into the 40k tax limit ;-)

The Akra system option gives zero extra power and with EU noise regulations probably also makes no difference to the audible note either.

If the Akrapovich is a bigger exhaust then it will give small power gains but VW won't advertise it as such. It'll also sound better too.
