synta silver, GSF do it for £11.50 for 5litres! is the only one you need and a genuine filter, gsf do them also!

Just ask for a bottle of synta silver oil, they should know what you're on about.  If they are complete muppets then you'll have to tell them it is made by quantum, its 10w40 and comes in a big silver bottle
Make sure you get a proper oil filter and the little copper sump washer too

Bear in mind that if the rattling doesn't stop either the tappets have had it or its your cam chain thats rattling.

It hasnt been serviced since april i think so it is prob in need of it fairly urgently!
So i need a proper VW oil filter aswell, not a halfrauds one?

Not tried the syntra but totally agree about the VW filter is a total must

I use Castrol Magnatec for my 8valve

The wifes mk3 driver has done high miles so it gets Castrol LongLife.
