OK, they are only phone photos but I think you get the idea. No disconnecting of the battery required.

Here you can see the fixed cabling in position. The positive terminal I just bolted onto the end of the thread that was fixing the positive side clamp in place. The negative terminal screwed onto the main earth point behind the battery. No disconnection of the battery at all.

In the middle of the battery (next to the ECU) you can just see the plug connector with it's cover on

Here's a close up of the plug connector that stays in place, with it's weatherseal cover off.

Here's the actual charger (that is usually in the garage (just shown on the engine for clarity). And behind it you can see rolled up the 2.5m extension cable. Near the charging plug, you can see the yellow female end that clips directly on from either the charger itself, or the extension cable if you have it.

Finally, here's a close up of the two sides of the charging connector.

Hope that's all clear. Don't forget it does also come with crocodile clips so you can use them if you don't want to do a permanent charge point.

Very slick. Can you close the bonnet with it connected?

Yep. I route the charging extension cable out of the top of the bonnet where the wipers are. Even with the bonnet closed, the cable isn’t trapped and can still move. Like I say, using the extension piece, it’s only a thin cable under the bonnet, the charger itself lives in the garage where it’s plugged in.

I’ve got a CTEK 5, which I use to keep our track car battery fit and it is very reliable and works well. My dealer uses them to look after the showroom cars. CTEK do a wide range of connectors and adaptors to suit any requirement.

Up to now, I haven’t felt the need to use it on the Golf. The stop/start battery must have huge reserve capacity, so I think it will manage OK with just a start, and run for a while, every week or so.

Mine seems to be okay with weekly trips out, just been shopping and the stop/start system was working fine. I'll keep the ctek in mindvthough should the situation change. Thanks to Sootchucker for posting.

Apologies for the duplicate post - I added this to my Carista thread but it’s relevant here too:

Carista have just launched a new ‘Low Power Mode’ for the battery if your car isn’t being used much. This basically just enables the manufacturers Transport Mode to conserve power. As soon as you start the engine, it reverts to normal power mode. You need the beta version to take advantage of this option. Has anybody purchased from ‘RB Styling’,a German company who specialise in painted badges?
Very expensive, but they look spot on,especially the black/red GTI badges.
I personally don’t like chrome, inside or outside a car and like to darken as much as I can without it looking too chav like-think subtles the word.
Anybody dealt with this company??

I've been so tempted to do this but worried it will make the car too quiet . Not sure if anyone's done it and can describe how it effects the car sound on a stock GTi?

Do it! You'll realise just how awful the fake noise is when you can actually hear proper induction noise and exhaust notes.
