« on: 24 February 2020, 20:52 »

Heated seats
Pano sunroof
28000 miles
Revo stage 1

Revo lower engine mount
VW racing line springs

Prices in English pounds please.

Many thanks

CAP clean is £15,400, WBAC are currently offering £16,350, so for a p/x I’d say expect bids of £15-16k, private sale anything from £16-17k.
SOLD March 2021
2019 GTI Performance, 5DR, DSG - Isaac Blue, Leather, Pan Roof, 19" Brescias, DCC, Dynaudio, Rear Camera, Keyless, Electric Memory Driver Seat.

The modified bit probably would drop the price from WBAC or any dealer...  fairly sure WBAC ask about modifications.

What you’d get for it depends on how you sell it - part exchange, private sale, auction, sell to the likes of We Buy Any Car. Each of these sales channels would result in a different selling price. The mods probably won’t add very much, if anything, to the car’s value. If anything, it’s likely to put some would-be buyers off.

If you’re looking to sell privately, there’s a 2016 16 plate 3 door GTI performance, 27,000 miles (private sale) on Auto Trader - advertised as fully loaded. It’s advertised for sale at £19,950 which seems high, and what it’s advertised for and what the seller gets for it are two different things.

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/202002187468008?fuel-type=Petrol&make=VOLKSWAGEN&radius=1500&quantity-of-doors=3&year-from=2016&postcode=nr13ns&maximum-mileage=30000&onesearchad=Used&onesearchad=Nearly%20New&onesearchad=New&seller-type=private&sort=relevance&advertising-location=at_cars&keywords=Gti%20performance&model=GOLF&transmission=Manual&page=1

Probably worth trying an on-line car buying service such as Motorway;

https://motorway.co.uk/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI7L6x3I3r5wIVh6ztCh0pMwH2EAAYASAAEgJ3kvD_BwE

Motorway is pretty much the same as the now-defunct Tootle car buying service. You provide details of your car and motor traders affiliated to Motorway then bid for your car and you’re under no obligation to accept / not accept any of the offers.

Good luck with the sale.

2002  mk4 Golf GTI (the 150 bhp diesel version); Deep Black Pearl

Some nice mods and a few good options. Put it up high, you can always lower it.

I have approached 4 dealers with cars I was interested in and 2 wouldn't part exchange as it was modified, one offered 15k and the other offered 17k but that was on a brand new lease deal when I wanted a 20-21k used car.

A mixed bag. I was hoping for about 17.5k but I think I'm being hopeful really. Not sure I'd pay that amount on a private sale for a modded car myself, it's just too risky and you'd have to put a lot of trust in a stranger.
So I think that may be a hard sell for me.

An option is to put back to standard but I don't have the original wheels anymore.

Not sure what to do really. Will check our that car buying website so thanks for that suggestion.

I contacted an independent car dealer I've bought from before who sometimes sell modified cars and they said they didn't know the VW market well enough, but I've seen them sell golf R's and clubsports previously so I guess that was a polite way of saying no thanks!

You could consider part-ex deals for some mods to help you get back to stock, visually at least. You’d make a few quid and make it easier to part-ex.

Be lucky to get 16k in standard form. I'm getting a shade over that on my Dec 16 PP 5 door with 28000 miles on it and I've got more extras too. You won't get anywhere near 17.5k on a trade in unfortunately.

Whatever you do, you will loose money on all those mods. It's devalued the car to the trade, could put off most private buyers and would cost more money than you'd gain by putting it back to standard.

What does your other half drive? Could you not change that for a practical, family car?
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

It's funny how mods are viewed, from my perspective they've improved the car and add value but to a certain buyer they don't and devalue it!

The other half has a sensible family car, it would just be easier if we could both use each others if needed and it would be a lot easier with a 5 door to inter change baby seats between them etc
