OBD Eleven for beginners
« on: 25 August 2019, 09:37 »
Hi

I've read a lot on here about obdeleven and can see that it allows you to tailor the on board systems by modifying the vehicle's computerised configurations.

I looked on Ebay and "obdeleven" is available from about £50, or £34 on the obdeleven . com website - for what looks like a dongle for the OBD2 port.  As well as that, what else is needed?  Does it need a cable to connect to a laptop or is it a Bluetooth or wifi dongle for a portable device? The dongle site mentions an android device, so does it work via an android tablet rather than a laptop?  And what about Apple devices which I have, do they work too?

What software is needed on the laptop / apple device, and is that free or does it have to be bought?

In another thread I saw something about obd11 pro version, and paying to use the software for major system changes using points?

Once the above is sorted and your phone / ipad / laptop is connected to the car, how easy is it to use?  I guess worst case scenario you mess up the car's systems and can't get it back to how it was? Or can you save the configuration before editing, and then push it back in if things go wrong?

I guess it's quite a big question, but I can't find a beginners guide anywhere.

many thanks

You are over thinking it.

The OBDEleven plugs into the OBD port of the car. Then you connect your Android (iOS coming in the next gen) device to it via Bluetooth. You need a wifi connection or phone connection to do anything on it as it works with the online OBDEleven database.

The basic version works on Apps that use "Credits" you get 5 free a day. The Pro version does the same but you can also do adaptations and long coding without using credits.

You can mess the car up, do not randomly change things or you could be in serious trouble. There is a History section to see what you have done but easier to get it right first time.

Yup. I received the update email last week. No dates or anything other than “delayed for unlimited time” and all products removed from their website.

As somebody who doesn’t own anything android I was relying on the new ‘next gen’ appearing soon, but I’m now back to square one and trying to find the easiest way of getting the Scandinavian lights activated before winter arrives.

The email I received:

I saw this too, bit disappointing really. If you're around manchester at any point I'd be happy to help with scandanavian lights though.

Bumping this back up because I see the next gen pro is available again, but in “beta” only for iOS. Tempted to take a punt as it’s only €100, but has anybody heard any negative feedback since the re-release?

All I want to do is small things such as Scandinavian rear DRL’s, non-dipping front DRL’s when the main lights are on etc.

The pro version is to do with you online log in, your user name and password is kept online and when logging in it then tells the tablet/phone that you have pro and let’s you into adaptions/long coding in the software, you can use any dongle/tablet you want as long as you know the dongle passcode,
So if you have gen1 with pro enabled in the software then you only need to buy the gen2 dongle, the difference between pro and ultimate is a carry case and phone holder and 500 credits so don’t worry bout that,
If you wanna check the one click apps, just download the app on Android, type in your vin number and check what apps come up (although not all apps will work) bearing in mind all that apps are are the codings put together under one click, and pro let’s you do the codings
You can also buy and put the pro code in at any time
