Electric window memory issue
« on: 20 July 2019, 18:08 »
Hi

I have the common issue on my 2014 with my window switches forgetting their memory.
I’ve tried holding the switches up and down and it will work and then forget again.

Strange thing is that sometimes the switches will forget the memory and then 10 minutes later they work again.

After searching the Internet, no one seems to have found a solution.

Has anyone else had the issue ?

Thanks

Had the same on my 2013 Gti. My stop start was also never activating. Did a battery test at my friends garage and it needed replacing. Since the battery was replaced never had the issue again.

Ive noticed our 2014 also does this from time to time, but I hold the button again and its fine, only seems to do it on the drivers side which is weird

It sounds like you 5 year old battery is to blame. The slightest inconsistency in voltage and sensors have a fit. Your windows will have thought your battery had been disconnected, hence the reason to reset them.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Thanks. I’ll have to look at a battery.

My 2014 GTD had the same problem for about 2 out of the 3 years I owned it. The drivers window was the one I noticed the fault with but probably because that was the one I used most and noticed the most!

I was told that there was a fault with the switch itself but I never got it swapped out.

Apparently it was common?

It seems owners/dealers have either replaced the switch or the battery.

At the risk of sounding thick - what do you mean by electric window 'memory'?

Basically when it goes wrong the long pull "one shot up/down" doesn't work - you need to hold your finger on the button to make it go up and down.
