Agree with this. Crawlers really bug me.
I’ve had my GTI 3 months and only just realised how Hold Assist works. I’d always wondered why you’d need such a thing with a DSG because it’ll never roll back on a hill while in drive anyway so I intentionally left it switched off.
Anyhow, I accidentally engaged it last weekend and discovered it automatically applies the parking brake when you come to a full stop and if start/stop is engaged, it doesn’t start the engine by taking your foot off the brake pedal, requiring a press of the throttle. The engine will still start up again if the car in front moves off, but the GTI won’t crawl forwards until you press the throttle.
On balance I quite like not having to sit at traffic lights with my foot on the brake (I’ve never been one to use the handbrake for anything other than parking up) so I’ll keep Hold Assist switched on.
