That said, I had a small acceleration test on a private road a while ago with an RS3 Saloon (facelift, 400bhp). We both were doing about 75 and he had a car in front, which pulled over and we both went for it. He pulled away, but not as quickly as I thought he would. I saw 145 so I'm guessing he was going a fair bit quicker

TBH, "quick" is relative really. Yes on a race track the RS3 would probably find a second or two on your Golf per lap. In real world terms, not so much as you'd notice (he might arrive at the chip shop say 20 seconds before you do) but in racing terms... you are utterly smashed.

I think that's what people forget... real world vs racing.

Yes, lots of factors in these situations. He did arrive at the round 2 miles later at exactly the same time as me and we had a little wave/thumbs up!

To the OP, I wouldn't have thought there would actually be much difference between a stock i30N and GTI performance so maybe as suggested it wasn't standard. A Stage 1 should avoid future disappointed

True.  i30n is marginally more powerful but carries a fair whack more weight than the GTI.  From memory they are ~1480kg?  So on the road performance should be very close.

At the end of the day, it doesn't much matter.  The i30n driver is probably still complaining about losing all his fillings.

The i30N performance has got 275hp so 30 more than the pp golf. It's torque figures aren't as high though.

Don't forget to let the i30n owners know in advance that you will only be able to race in 10second intervals ...

Not necessary as with the exception of the Autobahn, you won't be able to use the throttle for 10 sec non stop on any public road. Definitely not possible in most tracks either. And by the way, the moment you lift off the overboost counter resets so...

Also, BMS dyno'ed a Clubsport with the overboost on and off, the difference was less than 10hp and always over 280

@OP: If it was pulling away so fast in a straight line then most definitely it was mapped or running a piggy. Despite the extra bhp the in-gear acceleration numbers of the i30N in tests were not as impressive as the numbers suggested so it should have been much closer.  If this had been on a twisty b-road I'd say it would be normal as even stock it should be able to carry more speed with a half decent driver. But 2.0 TSIs have great delivery and generally punch a bit above their weight.

PS. If you worry about performance, as others have said a stock GTI is nothing impressive by today's standards. Has excellent potential though.
