Congrats Watts! As per the thread title, waiting two years was going to extraordinary lengths!

Indeed! Just been delivered too, look great. The seller dropped them off in the donor R which he had changed to 7.5 rear lights. He'd done a few smart mods on his car, the Cadiz wheels had parts blacked out so they looked like thin spokes, looked much better. He also had an Akrapovich exhaust (not sure how far back it went) which had a very nice tone, tail pipes looked very good too

Is this just a straight simple swop of the whole light cluster?

I do hope so!

Done it! Ordered a set of rear R lights today, still a bit concerned about my wallet but a rather nice bottle of red loosened up the purse strings

Course, you could have just bought an R in the first place.

Whilst the wallet was open, did you buy a DA?

I was going to get a DA but I was worried that too many moths might escape :embarrassed:

As for the R, well, who knows, perhaps on the next change, I will certainly consider one

I’ll be honest, the slightly darker lights seem an odd upgrade as guessing very expensive? Or are they the dynamic ones from the 7.5?

It's very easy swap. Two 8mm nuts on the inner lights on the boot lid and the outer ones just unscrew. If you have any trim removal tools they come in handy to pop the cluster away from the body. Not essential though.

Be very careful with the corners of the outer cluster. I would imagine they'd break very easily.

Shouldn't take more than 45 minutes to an hour.

Thanks for that

It is a subtle change but they do look better, just the 7R ones. Secondhand they're not too expensive, I wouldn't open my wallet too far on such a frivolous purchase

By the time you sell your original cherry red lights it makes it a very cheap mod.

Next up for me will be CSS rear muffler mod and gloss black rear valance. I'd love a CS spoiler but apparently they don't fit... anyone had a go?

From what I’ve read, fitting a CS rear spoiler to a GTI it isn’t a straightforward job. Apparently, the Clubsport uses the tailgate from the ‘standard’ Golf, which is different to the one on the GTI. So to fit the Clubsport rear spoiler to the GTI would involve changing the tailgate as well.

That's what I found too, I wanted to modify my mk7.5 into a Clubsport, looked at the work involved, spoke to a guy in Scotland who had done it really well... and then I bought a Clubsport!

If you want a car that looks and sounds like a CS, the best thing to do is buy a CS!
