Couple of quick questions please
« on: 05 September 2018, 08:16 »
Hi all. I've had my new GTI 7.5 now for about 4 months and have two quick questions that I hope someone can answer.

First question is more out of curiosity. I specc'ed my car with the upgraded :
"Lane assist plus with Dynamic light assist, Emergency Assist, Rear Traffic Alert, Side Scan, Traffic Jam assist and traffic sign recognition."

With that comes the upgraded dynamic headlights and that's the first question. As the mornings and evenings are now getting darker earlier, for the first time since I've had the car, my automatic headlights have started coming on. I've noticed in reflections in car and vans ahead of me (and confirmed by looking at the car from the front when the lights were on), that on dipped headlights, both the outer and inner (high beam ?) units are on - so sort of 4 headlights, as well as the dipped DRL LED's. However I've seen a few other MK7.5 performance models (mainly GTD's and R's) coming towards me, and they only have the dimmed DRL's and a single outer headlight LED ?

Is this to do with me having the dynamic headlights that all 4 operate or is there a fault ?

My second question is to do with another of the 'features' of this package, that being the traffic jam assist. It was my understanding that with this option, if you were travelling on adaptive cruise control and hit a traffic jam, that the car would bring you to a complete stop (which it does as mine is DSG), but that when the cars ahead moved off, without touching any buttons, accelerator or steering wheel, the car would "self drive" up to about 10-15mph, without any driver input (i.e steering, engine re-start, acceleration and braking would all be controlled by the car). Trouble is, I've never been able to get this to work. As I say, it does stop me safely, but when the car ahead moves off, my car stays still and I have to either tap the accelerator or the "resume" button on the steering wheel to continue.

Am I doing something wrong, or is there another way this works please ?

Re traffic jam assist, it works only if stopped for less than 3 seconds, then you have to either press resume or touch the accelerator, but that part is more to do with the ACC,

Yes, 4 beams on main headlights.

Is that just for the models with Dynamic headlights though Jim, or all MK7.5's (as the ones I've seen only have the outer lights illuminated) ?

Ahh, didn't know there was a time limit - never felt like mine was self steering though, even when the traffic jam didn't force a complete stop (just a crawl), i felt that I still had to steer otherwise the car wandered over it's lane ?

Traffic Jam Assist
Traffic Jam Assist helps the driver to keep in lane, and also provides assistance when following other vehicles in congestion or slow-moving traffic.
Traffic Jam Assist is an extension of the lane keeping system (Lane Assist) for vehicles with a DSG® dual clutch gearbox ⇒ Lane keeping system (Lane Assist) , and combines the functions of the lane keeping system with those of Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) ⇒ Adaptive Cruise Control . Please therefore read both related chapters and observe the information about the system limits and warnings.

Traffic Jam Assist function
At speeds under 60 km/h (35 mph) Traffic Jam Assist can maintain a time interval, set by the driver, to a vehicle in front, and help the vehicle to stay in lane ⇒ .

The system automatically controls acceleration, braking, steering and, if required, will decelerate to a stop behind a vehicle that is stopping, and then drive away again automatically.

Only use Traffic Jam Assist on motorways and well-maintained country roads. Do not use Traffic Jam Assist in urban traffic.

Switching Traffic Jam Assist on and off
Traffic Jam Assist together with the adaptive lane guidance ⇒ Lane keeping system (Lane Assist)  is switched on and off via the Infotainment system ⇒ Operation and display in Infotainment system .

Traffic Jam Assist can also be switched off together with the lane keeping system by pressing the button for driver assist systems ⇒ Button for driver assist systems .

Technical requirements for using Traffic Jam Assist
The lane keeping system is switched on and active together with the adaptive lane guidance ⇒ Lane keeping system (Lane Assist) .
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) is switched on and active ⇒ Adaptive Cruise Control .
The selector lever is in position D/S or in the Tiptronic gate.
The system has detected a lane marking on both the right and left sides of the vehicle ⇒ Fig. 134 .
The speed is under 60 km/h (35 mph).

Yes, 4 beams for the the models with Dynamic headlights - I mean, you got to have something to show where you've spent some extra money!
