Front assist error?....Update!
« on: 31 August 2018, 17:04 »
Hi all, been out for a drive today for a few hours, pretty steady due to loads of traffic .....parked up for an hour then got back in car driving home and noticed amber warning exclamation first then where the trip normally reads the amber warning which is apparently stating 'front assist unavailable'?

Being 'unavailable' doesn't seem to appear in the manual after a good look, if I turn it off in driver assistance setting then 'off' appears under same warning graphic, turn it back on goes back to unavailable. Got home parked up for 5 mins went back in ignition on and error still there ......I then wondered if anything stuck to radar and found the splat in image below.....hardly much but could this have caused problem?

I did try again after cleaning it off but error still on, didn't hit any potholes whilst out and nothing that would to my mind cause it to have a problem. Just wondered if anyone else has had this?....I'll need to ring dealer I guess if it doesn't clear itself over weekend..

Let the car sit for a while.... try again in the morning.

If its still there, its damage/fault....

I've had it both on the Mk7 and the Mk7.5.... nothing shifts it until you leave it a proper while. I guess there is a time period before the car fully shuts down and then restarting triggers another functionality test. Until then, its flagged as an error.

Current: Mk8 GTI DSG, Adelaides, DCC, HUD, HK, Winter Pack, Rear Camera.. Aka "HMS Weasel"

Gone: 2017 Mk7.5 GTD,manual, NavPro
Gone: 2014 Mk7 GTD, manual, NavPro, DCC

Cheers fred, will follow your advice and try again in morning.....I did search and found a few threads saying radar can need realignment but couldn't think of what might've unsettled it......thanks

Rich - try scanning for fault codes using your OBDEleven and then if it flags any you can clear them. Any persistent fault or calibration issue will generate a new fault code.

I never thought about trying that Nick, I'll see how things are in morning (hopefully it'll have reset itself as fred suggests) and if still there threaten it with the OBD!...nice one cheers

I had this after I hit a partridge full on. The impact knocked the square sensor block from it’s mounting. My dealer managed to refit it so that it looked correct, but the system had to be realigned, apparently. That, I was told, involves 4 hours on a rolling road and cost just under £500! Safety related, so what do you do? This system could save you and your passengers lives, or that of a wayward pedestrian. They have you between a rock and a hard place! Hopefully, the new position, behind the badge on the 7.5, is more robust.

Good luck with fixing it, but I think this may be a dealer cash cow that is hard to avoid.

It doesn't go on a rolling road but it does cost around the 400-500 mark. It's a full alignment check but only certain garages have the correct equipment to perform the check.

Well after leaving it overnight I'm feeling more nervous (based on possible costs mentioned above!) as error message still there when turning ignition on  :undecided:.....I did plug obdeleven in and code throwing up after scanning is 'C110300 misalignment', I tried clearing in the app but after saying its clearing fault the fault remains, within the app also on dash.

There hasn't been any damage to the unit nor the grill surround or bumper, looks like I may have to visit dealer to initiate chat about sorting it, is it possible it might be looked upon as a warranty job seeing as there's no apparent physical damage?........but I might go see a guy I know (very experienced bmw trained tech) who we've used for servicing in past and ask his thoughts first.

Maybe it'll be nice to me and reset itself next time I can get it out of garage!!....

Could be just a faulty unit. I wouldn't show anyone the picture of the dead bug splat and would clean everything up before taking it to a VW garage. They are looking for any excuse to not pay warranty work at the minute.
