Try the plastic cover behind the rear view mirror. Mine rattled from day one and disappeared if held. Ended up taking the cover apart and refixing it so it clips together properly and the silence is golden

Is there a guide to that online as mine is loose and rattles when I shake it but luckily doesn't seem to rattle when driving but I'd like to sort it anyway.

All this is a bit disconcerting on a £30k+ car..... Wouldn't happen in an Audi, would it?

Audi assembly operators don't have superior training or access to better parts that fit better. Some parts may look superficially better, such as a flash of chrome or brushed alloy on the leading edge of a switch, but function exactly the same.

The parts will fit multiple car platforms within the VAG brands.

When looking at reviews, usually the 'excellent fit and finish' of the A3 (say) comes up. I can't tell the difference between that and a Golf having driven both.  For me, the Golf has everything where it should be, the A3 nearly but not quite. I'd be upset if, in fact when, I shell out £30k on a new GTI and it rattles though.....

Audis aren’t immune from interior rattles. My dealer has an Audi franchise on the same site as their VW dealership, so when my car goes in for servicing / warranty / repair work and I have a courtesy car, I sometimes get ‘lucky’ and get an Audi as a courtesy car.

On a fairly recent occasion I had an Audi TT as a courtesy car. Quite nice to have something a bit different, but to say I was less than impressed with the build quality is an understatement. The interior was plagued with creaks and rattles.

I was pleased to hand it back and drive my rattle-free VW home.

And I was having second thoughts about speccing a pan roof due to potential rattles (several years down the line as keep my cars a long time)........

Every car from every manufacturer will have a rattle of some sort. Don't think because you buy a more expensive VW (Audi) that it's got anything superior just because of the badge. Majority of parts are stamped VW, Audi, seat, Skoda on them somewhere.

Almost certainly the measures taken to improve panel fits and interior component mounting are absolutely identical across all of VAG. The only differences will be the more luxury designs of the visible components as you move up the VAG scale... and those little things all add to the cost quite significantly when it comes to an entire car's worth of a few euros here and a few euros there.

If its any consolation, my friend's brand new M5 has annoying rattles that BMW can't seem to fix too!
