My two cents, just drive the flipping thing, don't waste money on head units no-one will give a sh1t about when you come to sell.

Audi S1 gone, awaiting 1.5tsi r-line, pan roof, led lights front and rear, active dash, 18" jurva alloys and a dealer fitted Oettinger roof spoiler in tornado red.

If you're wanting to improve the sound quality the first place i would start would be upgrading the standard speakers, then maybe adding a subwoofer.

I was led to believe that you could get App Connect  (Android Auto and Apple Carplay) activated by your dealer by crossing their palm with silver as long as you had an MIB 2 unit with the App Connect icon in the menu. I'm guessing you don't have this?

I've looked at a few aftermarket units but haven't found any that can offer exactly the same level of integration as the OEM units. The most common issues are the lack of display between the clocks and steering wheel buttons not working properly. Haven't looked for a while though, things might have improved now.

Hi guzzle

Not sure what MIB i have but in thr menu there is app connect and when i click it it says contact dealer for code does that mwan i can have app connect ? Im being told only MIB2 units can retrofit it but i tjink ive a mib1

Considering this however Direct Line say no 🙄 apparently only up to 20% power change is allowed by underwriters

Anyone got this and if so with whom are u insured ? Is it worthwhile saying to Direct Line its only a 18% increase

Jeni

I found Directline wouldn't insure me for a pedalbox even although it gives zero power increase. I know several folk on here who have declared their box and got insurance with them.

I threatened to cancel my 5 car mutli-policy with them and take them all elsewhere and they couldn't have cared less.

Went to Admiral and declared the box at the end of the quote and the price went down.
Spoke to the customer adviser about a tuning box at the time and she said it would add £8 roughly!

MIB2 units were fitted to late 15 plate cars onwards, anything built before week 22 of 2015 will be MIB1. You should be able to differentiate between the two units as MIB2 has a slightly larger screen with a smaller bezel around the perimeter of the screen.

App Connect doesn't work on MIB1 so if you have one of those you shouldn't be able to see the icon. As far as I know, no icon no worky, irrespective of which unit you have.

I know it's not a question you asked, but just in case you were wondering, this is how much work is involved in swapping over the head unit to some of the aftermarket ones.

Yeah I tried the old calling back routine but it was on my notes that I'd tried to add it and they refused again.
I'm not a high risk, good postcode, no accidents and no active points.
My insurance for the R was £225 so not sure why they refused.

The first time I phoned the telephone operator looked it up online while I was speaking to him so he knew it had no extra power. He then said he phoned the underwriter while I was waiting and they point blank refused to entertain it, even at a premium.

I can never fathom out the logic of insurance companies.
