No more non-PP (and hello!)?

For me personally I was looking for a “all rounder”. Something that could be fun when I am on my own, but also comfortable and safe when driving the family around. I didn’t need the extra hp or anything else which potentially could go wrong. I also went ‘old school’ as prefer the manual box interaction rather than the DSG. Very personal thing depending on what you are looking for/need.

Spoke to dealership again today.

They have been told that the standard GTI won’t be available to order until end of July and no guarantee on delivery dates.

Got them looking for an in stock or on order car in Black, indium grey or Issac blue at the moment.  Next fallback is to dsg which is about £35 a month more, or to PP at about the same increase.

Alternatively as the equity on my trade in is minimal, I look for non VAG.

Golf GTI orders have ceased temporarily as our factories prepare for the global switch to WLTP: volkswagen.co.uk/owners/wltp. It may be worth registering your interest with a Retailer so they can advise when this is available again.

So did the dealer suggest that the PP version (manual) could be ordered now and delivered earlier?

Only that they’d check what was available by the end of the day.  Guess what.  Past 7pm and no call.  Think I’ll be cancelling off my own back. 

They admitted that they had days off and training so didn’t place the order themselves last week, but didn’t check it had been done.  VW confirmed it wasn’t available 22/5 so they’ve either sold a car that they should have known wasn’t available, or they didn’t place the order between 19/5-22/5 and missed the cutoff.  No idea when it actually came off sale though.  Can you tell I’m not impressed?

Yeah, sure can and agree with you. Appears to be very bad communication between VW, dealers and customers at the moment. I also don’t understand why they took the standard GTi off the configurator while their IT department update it! Seems to indicate the spec is changing (but seriously how long does that take?) or I have been told a lie. If the spec was charging wouldn’t also the PP version change?

It is frustrating as I also might need to look elsewhere or I will potentially be without a car. Just some honest answers would be good.

I also received an email from VW UK today...

I've not had much success with VW or dealers in trying to get a straight answer either. I work in a 'client facing' job - if I carried on like that I'd be down the road, sharpish.

I may look at an A3 now.
