I detest our 1.6TDI Match with a passion. It's just so dull, I won't drive it. My wife is happy enough with it, but in an 'it'll do' kind of way. I get my pleasure from my Amarok and on rare occasions my Mk2 GTI, but wondered if I'd get enthused a little more about a sportier Golf. I like the look of the GTE and am not too fussed about outright performance and handling dymanics, so if might fit the bill as something a little different. Or would it just be another small car that's just like every other?

Any thoughts anyone?

Totally academic as VW are not currently taking orders for the GTE. The order book closed in December with waiting time at least 9 months! It is not even on the Configurator.

Maybe not academic, if the OP was thinking of buying an existing nearly new GTE.

Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

A mate of mine bought the Gte back in 2015 he loves it especially eo and from work everyday and his weekly run to his caravan at Cleethorpes.
I drove it before I got my Gti because I knew that's what I wanted bt tbh o was impressed with how quick it was even with the extra weight put it in Gte mode and floor it you get thrown back and the kick down is good too.
Don't get me wrong if your wanting performance then a Gti or R but the Gte ticks alot of box's

Just received an email saying that the Golf GTE re-opens for ordering on Thursday 10th October.

Bit late in the day with the Mk8 on the horizon, but you never know. Thought i'd share as info might be of interest to someone.

How really damned weird.

I would have expected Mk7.5 orders to have closed by now... unless you order now and get the Mk8 which we have already seen in GTE guise.

I  read this article:

https://www.carmagazine.co.uk/electric/how-much-ev-charging-and-running-cost/

I'd think twice about the GTE based on that - in fact unless I was trying to dodge BIK I'd avoid hybrids full stop.

I was also struck by the cost of the public charging points vs domestic electricity rates. I'd always assumed it was likely to have some profit involved but that's a lot of profit...

Had my Polo GTI+ in for warranty work to get rid of a creaky rattle (new bump stops and top mount bearings on front suspension) and I saw a brand new e-Golf in the showroom. Oddly though, it had the old style ACC sensor in the front lower grille and an old front badge (not smooth) - any idea why?
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....
