Turbo rip ...update

Got an intermittent little red steering wheel on display this afternoon. Rang local dealer and said they would recover car. But I was not far away and car seemed fine so they agreed that I drive it carefully to them . After about an hour they came back to say turbo was on way out and new one needed . Will get back car just before Easter . Only done @36000 miles so not very happy with this sort of early failure . It’s a warranty  job so hey ho. Garage very good and have a loan car 🚗 an Up which I rather like ! This is the third failure they have seen over the last few months . Mine is an 2015  Gtipp dsg.

On the plus side, you should then have the latest revision of turbo, which is (allegedly) stronger than the early ones.

Better it go now than in a few months when the car is out of warranty.

Got car back this morning. All well and car valeted so that was good. On all the blurb it says ‘Replaced turbo and all associates parts as per ELSA guidelines.Ran GFF, faults cleared.Set vehicle oil pressure to ‘run in’ mode .This will automatically revert back to normal after 1000km .’ Don’t know what ELSA guidelines are but presume it is some standard . But why the oil pressure set to run in mode ?

Good they got that sorted for you.

I'm interested to know what the run in mode is too! Didn't think it had one?

Doesnt this confirm what people have been saying for ages - after 1k on a brand new car it feels better, faster and almost like restrictions removed.

May I ask if you have had the car from new?

If so did you run it in as per VW guidelines or just give it the beans from the off?

Ran it in as per manufacturers instructions. Had car from new .

I used VW dealers in Scarborough and they have had three others one R and two Gti . If that is replicated through UK then quite a lot of failures .
