steering rack gaiter

hi took my 2013 gtd in for a dsg service and aircon service last weekend only to find they had one a vehicle health check and found that the steering rack gaiter was loose I was told via a presention video that I needed a full new steering rack....went to pick the car up was then told by the chief technition that it only needed a new gaiter rubber .....wounder whos on the make here ,,,, just wanted to knowif its an easy fix will take to my local vw specialist

If its just a gaiter then I imagine it could be replaced by removing the track rod and tie rod end then just putting another one in its place. Shouldn't cost too much, but there is a massive difference between that and a new rack! If it's not leaking or giving any issues, then there's no reason it should need a new one.
