I keep getting a whiff of petrol occasionally coming through the vents, after a period of driving, usually when i'm sitting at lights, I get a whiff. I've been smelling around the engine bay (as you do) it smells like its coming from the carbon canister.. now i'm not sure though, which bit, is it the canister itself? or the rubber bungs with the pipes coming out on top?? has anyone any advice or experience of fuel smell from this canister?? Don't want to buy the canister if its the rubber bungs or vice versa lol

I’ve had this exact issue - check the plastic pipe that runs from the canister to the fuel hoses near the bulkhead. Mine had perished and was obviously letting vapours out. Cheap and easy fix - just get a short length of fuel hose (8mm ID if I recall) and just replace that short section.

Since then I’ve actually deleted the entire Evap system so it’s no longer there but my fix above worked fine for the time before I removed it.

pipe work seems ok.. the smell seems to come from the top part of the canister... I wouldn't be skilled enough to remove the whole system lol, but i did notice today that I cant hear the clicking noise from the canister.. could that be the problem?? its some sort of solenoid isn't it on top??

If it's knackered it may not be doing what it should be and taking the vapours back to the tank

Replacing it isn't a hard job, just a bit time consuming as you have to move the PAS tank and water bottle out of the way IIRC

I expect they will be hideously expensive if you do even manage to find a new one so second hand will probably be your only option. Or bin the thing completely - a guide is in the maintenance section

This is an example of the one you want, you can get them cheaper on ebay, keeps the lights off on the dash and I used them to remove my SAI, N249, N112 and carbon canister
