The outgoing Polo GTI had mulitilink rear suspension, so not much of a stretch to think that the new one would too. I would always take the online car mag scoops and news with a pinch of salt - they always show photoshopped pics of the "spied new model" and make the details up until VW come out with something concrete - these same people were saying tbe up! was going to be at least £15k.

The only inaccuracy i've seen in the brochures was the launch MK7 one - equipment included "anti-tramp device". They added a tramping device to mine - Bridgestones.

Matt, just checked the article in this month's VW driver magazine and he definitely states no multi link rear suspension but an uprated rear torsion beam. It could have been a euro spec car but surely they wouldn't do two different rear setups for different markets.

We'll have to wait and see for a proper UK spec to be scrutinised for sure but VW do alter suspension set-ups for different markets, to hit a pricepoint or through lack of need for better agility in corners. The MK7 Golf GTI comes with (or at least pre facelift did) fixed beam suspension for the US market with it's die-straight roads. Different markets get lots of different things from UK spec. Adding a fixed beam to a Golf 7 GTI when the bottom rung trim has it is child's play. If the Polo GTI is the only model trim in the whole factory getting multi-link then its a little less convenient for VW to do. Likely there's an Ibiza Cupra in the wings expecting multilink suspension at tge same factory.

Highly doubt VW driver mag got their hands on a full UK spec Polo GTI a month ago when that article was written. Ordering only started mid-Dec. Would've been one of a handful the Germans knocked up for press release.

I’ve got a 2016 Polo GTI, so the outgoing model. Here’s my rear suspension; beam axle.

2020 Polo GTI Plus; Pure White, DSG (because they all are)
Gone but not forgotten;
2016 Polo GTI; Blue Silk
2011 mk6 Golf GTD; Carbon Grey
2007 mk5 Golf GT (2.0 170bhp TDI version); Deep Black Pearl
2002  mk4 Golf GTI (the 150 bhp diesel version); Deep Black Pearl

Just been to see one at a dealer near me (5 door in white) and the photos/videos don't really do it justice.  It was parked next to a lower spec tornado red Up and the white looked nicer to me - the red is a bit too dull (sorry Wigit!), shame they don't do it in flash red.  Anyhow, the car looks far better in the flesh!  I'm test driving one next Wednesday and a purchase all depends on what the ride is like and also the power/torque of the engine.

I went to look at a red one on Saturday which goes tornado pink in certain lights (I am sure many remember the Mk5 jokes), looked at a white one today and white it is going to be, private reg also sorted which ties in with the M2

Did spec up a Polo and was at £25K, notice there are lease deals around which to me seem not as good value as the R of GTI.

I was convinced that it (outgoing model) had multi-link, tried hard to push the wife towards a Polo GTI instead of the A1. She's ip for a Polo this time around.(it was my money being spent), so looked well into it. Should be in a courtesy Polo tomorrow night when the R goes in, so will see what is missing in the ride on a fixed beam axle, just in case current brochure is wrong.

If i'm lucky, Pulman Durham will have an up! GTI to look at.

Right decision imho.  TR looks good in certain photos - there have been a couple of Clubsports posted elsewhere which looked stunning, then I see the TR MK7 R around the corner and it looks really dull.  White for me, or maybe black - but as you pointed out, no side stripes which is a real shame.

That have, and so do VW in Newcastle, both white though so not worth going to the two dealers (like I did :) )

Funnily enough there were a few TR Mk7s today in the car park where I was parked and I thought the same, the issue that got my OCD was the TR does not go with the dash.

I have to admit my white R estate has had the best paint of any of the VWs we have owned and gets the least attention
