It was impossible to disengage the handbrake without putting your seat belt on. Very annoying if you only wanted to move the car a few feet!

Used to be like that on the Mk7 too... I think later they disabled that safety feature... its certainly not on my 7.5.

Door seals just need lubricating with the right oil, VW and others supply it, can't remember what it's called but I got some off ebay. Bit pricey but goes a long way.

It’s Krytox, or a cheaper substitute is Gumme Pflege. Some don’t rate Gummi Pflege as highly as Krytox, but it is much cheaper.

Yeah early MK7's were like that for sure. Not sure when they changed it but my '15 car disengages it without the seatbelt.

I know this thread is focusing on "Things you hate" but I must say the electronic handbrake / auto-hold / DSG / adaptive cruise systems are an absolute joy in the MK7 Golf. Sit into a new 3/4 series BMW and you'll see a manual handbrake... it seems archaic.

I only ever use the parking brake when I park.  And I release it myself.

Actually, one feature of my GTI that I really like is "Auto Hold".  A genuine improvement over a manual handbrake, works automatically, unobtrusive and a real driver aid.

My Octy vRS has the autohold feature but also has a manual handbrake. Autohold is a great feature, but i've just never really trusted electronic handbrakes. Not sure why, but it may have something to do with the Passat courtesy car I once had. It was impossible to disengage the handbrake without putting your seat belt on. Very annoying if you only wanted to move the car a few feet!

You can release the parking brake manually by pressing the flapper button down in such situations. Having said that, if it was a B6 as opposed to a B7, that may not be the case.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

VW Squeaky seals easily resolved with Krytox oil (Special Lubricant) TPS or ebay. Approx £38 for 30ml

Better longevity than Gummi Pflege ime.

I hate that on the mk7 (as standard) they ditched the four way controller for adjustable lumbar support and stuck us with the rudimentary handle on the side of the seat. Cheapskates!

One other thing I found was that the boot of the Mk7 is a little bit narrower than that of the mk6. I have a case that I used to slot in exactly taking up the entire width of the boot. I can't do that anymore and have to stand the case up at an angle.

I'd add when fully adjusted to the max it exposes a hole in the cloth. Dealer said its normal when I questioned it so I checked other GTI's and he's right.

Yes, that annoys me too. My old Audi was built so much better in so many ways and I loved it, but I wouldn't get rid of my GTI and go back now, it's just so much fun

That’s not the case with leather.  Even with the handle at max there’s no hole, no visible break in the leather, so surprising that’s that’s the case with cloth.
