Sounds to me that the dealer is apologetic and giving you all the options. Tbh I’d be sorely tempted to take the car now, but I’d try and push for more sweetners. Waiting another 3 months would be a right pita.

A dealer that really cared about your custom would re-order the car you originally wanted, and let you drive this one in the meantime.

I think the dealer is being fair enough, am sure if you push you'll get something more as mats come free anyway. At the end of the day, mistakes happen, we are all human. As some are suggesting, expecting that will let you drive this one and order a new one, that ain't going to happen! They aren't going to lose a ton of money because of a genuine mistake when they are attempting to rectify things.

Guess it depends how much you want the car or if you can wait for a reorder. Which only one person in this thread can actually answer.

Agreed. I think the best case scenario - if he decides to hold out for a re-order - is he gets whatever loaner the dealer has available. Getting the new GTI or equivalent to spin around in for 3 months is unlikely to fly IMO - but you can always ask!

Misktakes do happen... This is why you really need to follow up with the dealer regularly especially in the early stages to make sure he's ordered the right spec. I remember my dealer sending me screenshots of the order on his system the last time I went through this.

Back in the mid 1990's this happened to my Dad. He ordered a Ford Escort (hatch). 7-8 weeks later the car turned up and the dealer registered it before we even saw it. We arrived to collect and quickly realised it was the "wrong" car. It was a saloon! Dad was going mad but the salesman was in a right state and Dad ended up feeling a bit sorry for him. He took the car, with a few sweetners thrown in... he was never 100% happy with it as it wasn't the car he ordered but he did grow to love it... sort of !

Of course they aren't going to do it. But it doesn't mean you shouldn't ask. It might just focus the dealers mind a little.

I understand that we're all human and all that, but we're all professionals too. I know if I made an error like that at work I wouldn't expect to get away with a £250 voucher and a tank of fuel.

Remember OP is spending thousands with them, and at the end of the day, it's not OP's error.

Yeah they should definitely be pushed a bit further as the £250 vouchers is a bit tight!

Not even sure how it would happen - don't you get a confirmation of the order? Can't be that hard to order a car with a number of options ticked. Its not exactly a bespoke Rolls Royce!

Mistakes happen and the dealer is trying to compensate somehow so fair play to them, there is not much they can do except the options you have already been given. It depends a lot on the sales people and how careful they are when pushing the buttons on their ordering tool. They did the same with my car, I ordered solid black and they delivered DBP. At least they owned up to their mistake and I got myself £500 worth of paint for free. Regarding mats I hope they ofered the premium rubber ones, not the standard free textile mats.

I've no idea how they could make a hash of it in this day and age, but a good few years ago a similar thing happened to me.

It was my first brand new car, I ordered a Fiesta with blue seats and was really looking forward to collecting it. Unfortunately upon arrival at the dealers it transpired the car had silver seats, which not only didn't look as good but they also showed dirt. They offered to 'find some blue seats from somewhere '. I told them 'no way are you stripping out my brand new car, reorder me the correct vehicle.'

They declined, so I rang another dealer that told me they couldn't get me a 1.25 in the correct trim, but there was a 1.4 showing on the computer that I could have for the same price.

'Done' i said.

As it was a Ford, the car was on my drive within a week. The original vehicle was left at the first dealer, complete with Sony Minidisc player that they bought in specially.

Standard suspension is different to a suspension with DCC. DCC suspension is active all the time where bog standard suspension is exactly that, standard.

On the 13th May 2014 I was to collect my new GTD but had an email from the dealers the afternoon before to give them a call. Rang the salesman who said there is a problem with the car, when they checked the invoices they didn't match and discovered the car had the Discover Navigation and not the Discover Navigation Pro i had paid for.
Two options take the car as is or order again, i went for the order again. I have already sold my current car and it is going to it's new owner tomorrow, the dealer have said they will loan me a car until the replacement is delivered. I got a new Scirocco for 3 months until the new car arrived.
