Dealer order error - views?
« on: 29 November 2017, 17:47 »
My GTI Performance arrived at the dealer this week. Saw it in the dealer compound today - lovely. Picking up on Friday. Exciting.

However - there has been an error in the build. My dealer has acknowledged that, despite recording my added extras correctly at the time of order (late August), they have omitted to enter the DCC option on the actual factory order. Hence the car has been built without DCC. All my other options are fine. I didn't get told this until today and, to be fair to the sales guy he was mortified about telling me. He gave me the option of refusing the car and re-ordering but I can't be facing another 4 month wait so I'm taking the car as built.

I'm disappointed but I suppose the upside is I've saved £880 and the monthly payments are reduced. The dealer has agreed to "compensate" me by giving me a £250 John Lewis voucher, front and rear floor mats and a full tank of fuel as well as the no-cost option of changing the service interval to long life/20,000 miles rather than the standard 1 year/10k with 2 services paid for.

Question - do you think I've got a fir deal here or would you have pushed for more? (I'm thinking of asking  them to throw a dog guard in)

Views?

BTW - spec is GTI Performance, DSG, Atlantic Blue, Dynaudio, Keyless, 19" Brescia. Lovely looking car - first Atlantic Blue I've ever seen. The red accents show up really nice against the blue. Can't wait to drive it Friday.

I wouldn't accept that. You ordered DCC because you wanted it. You are not getting the car you chose and I would feel compromised by that, even if I did have a bit of cash as a sweetener. £250 of JL vouchers is money that you will just spend on something for the sake of it, GTI's come with mats anyway and a tank of fuel is not a huge amount of money. As for the servicing, they are suggesting that they will service it, but not as often. That will cost them very little as main dealer servicing consists of bugger all, despite all the fancy showrooms and coffee machines.

I'd stamp my feet, reject the car and get them to give you a 'courtesy' car whilst you wait for the right spec car to arrive. I guess you are getting excited about Friday, but all said and done, it's only a car. Another plus, if you do that, you won't be driving your new car through the sh!tty winter months.

I would request they reorder th car, provide you with a loan car until it arrives.

As dubber points out, mats are free anyway, fuel is just an expensive we all have.

If you didn’t want DCC, You wouldn’t have ordered it... you did want it... so why go without.

Also, as you’ve ordered the 19s you might want the DCC even more, to soften the ride at times.

I'd make them reorder the car and give you no less than a GTD while waiting just for the fact that they tried to tell you they would through in a set of mats that come free. Cheeky feckers.

You're not getting much and why are they giving you vouchers? Could it be they get them cheap?? I can fully understand the need to get in your new car having waited 4 months but they either need to give you more (cash, not vouchers) or get a new car.

How good are the roads around you?

My roads are rubbish. My dealer was told that DCC was top of the options list. He knew that I would not have accepted the car without it.

With my CC a few years ago the dealer forgot to tick the box for the 19" Lugano wheels. I told them to reorder the car but as it was fully loaded except for roof and it was Oryx white so not the easiest car to sell. They rang the next day and said that they had would order a set of five wheels. I collected the car and when I went back to collect the lugano's I went in a friend's van and when they asked where the car was I said I wasn't fitting the wheels until the end of April they said that they offered to swap my wheels and I said no you offered to give me a set of wheels.

Sold the 18" wheels for £1900

Thanks for all the advice and views folks. You all make great points.

The bottom line for me is that I want the car more than I want another 4 month wait and I don’t crave for a comfort suspension setting enough to kick off some more tbh.

This will be my 5th GTI and the current 2.5 year old Performance Pack I am selling has Santiagos but no DCC so it’s not like I’m going to miss a comfort setting.

Question - are the normal and sports settings in the non DCC car the same as the normal and sports settings in DCC with the comfort setting being the main difference between the 2? Or is there more to it than that?

I had dcc on the last gtd and not got it now. Settings are the same but without dcc... Funnily enough.

I've only got 18's but quite honestly... Makes no difference in real life. I was worried but got over it in the first 10k
