New review on the facelift GTI. I like the way he gave it four stars but talks a lot of crap.

Why the Golf GTi still drives Chris Evans crazy

And I thought I talked some twaddle.

The reviews of Chris himself at the bottom are a bit cutting!

Personally I think the interior is one of the GTI's stronger points.

I love the interior too. He's right about sport mode though, unless you have a pedal box...

"but it’s still not a patch on the Golf R once the seat-belts are fastened and the key is turned."

Always rated Chris for his opinions.

Have to say I have not compared to pre F/L R and I know only 10 Bhp but mine feels so quick, bordering supercar performance IMO.  Certainly compared to MK 7 GTI. I had a little run in with a Nissan GT-R (think  a 480? from behind) and a super bike on an unnamed motorway and was not far off either, and they were going for it! For sure a potential license loser.

Anyone Got the pocketgpsworld speed camera download or other device that actually works. I'm gonna need it for sure.

Your'e probably right, but I decided at my age enough seeing R's and wishing/wondering. And so glad I did. At the price and above I don't see anything as accomplished, it rides like a dream, so not performance at the expense of comfort.
I'm sure that the GTI faithful when in a position to will want an R at sometime, as long as they don't spoil the formula. For me I can see 7 -10 years from this one, god willing

I could have bought an R but decided to go for PP Gti instead. Don't regret it one bit but did love the test drive in the R.

Not sure you can call the Golf R bordering on supercar performance...! That would be the case 10 years ago maybe but everything has moved on. A 335d X drive has same 0-60 as the Mk7.5 R. I drove a friends new RS3 recently and that could be described as almost supercar performance. But a Golf R wouldn't see which way a modern supercar went.

NOW - 330e M Sport
GONE - 2018 Mk7.5 GTI Performance 5dr DSG, Tungsten Silver, 2017 Mk7.5 GTI 5dr DSG, Indium Grey

It's obvious from reading that report that Evans never went near the car and just got some lacky to plunder other reviews out there and chuck in a few Evan'isms'.
