MK7.5 GTI Club Sport S - Rear seats
« on: 22 June 2017, 13:34 »
Hi All,

I wonder if you can help.

I'm not sure if this question has been asked or answered before, I have bought a Golf GTI Club Sport S, would anyone be able to tell me if rear seats can be installed into the back of the Club Sport S, for school runs etc...

Any help would be gratefully received.

Many Thanks,

TJ

Anything is possible with a drill and a welder.....

Would imagine the brackets are there, will need a bit of excavation of plastic to fit rear belts etc.

Aren't the CSS all Mk 7's ?

Is the clubsport S registered as 2 or 5 seater car on the V5 registration document?

I know the GTi is down as a 5 seater.

The reason I ask is, insurance companies may not be happy with more than 2 occupants if the car is type approved and registered as a 2 seater even if you fit VW's own rear seats and belts to the car?

Back in the old days I had a Mk2 Cavalier SRI 130. One weekend I had all the seats out to install my sound system. I needed to get to the motor factors as I'd run out of cable or connectors or something, so I put a folding deckchair in there and drove sat in that.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

I had a Manta and used a crate when the seat broke!

I assume it's a used CSS if it's just been bought.

That's a really good point regarding type approval and whether the insurance companies consider it to be a 2 seater or 5 seater.

First step for the OP should be to check with their insurance company. If it's officially a 2 seater and gained type approval as a 2 seater, then insurers may be unwilling to insure it as anything other than a 2 seater.

Sure, the title suggests it's a 7.5 GTi CSS, let's hope VW actually make them and more than 150 for the UK this time round! :)

Dare I say it, but potentially even worse if you need to claim, this could be an undeclared modification too far it it is not as registered or type approved.

Isn't it like 100 times easier buying a CS and retro-fitting swivels, carriers and a few other bolt-on bits (if you really want that say 5% of extra performance) than trying to retro-fit rear seats on a CSS?

Also, there is no 7.5 Clubsport or Clubsport S, they are all only MK7 obviously.
