GTI PP Question
« on: 02 June 2017, 02:01 »
Hello all,

Just pulled the trigger on a new Mk7.5, after playing ball with a few dealers ended up walking away with the a 5 door manual with the 90% rear tint.

As I was keen to avoid the long waiting times, compromised a bit on colour and ended up ordering the Tungsten Silver 245 PS Engine. Dealers say the car will be delivered late July. Essentially I had an idea of an acceptable price in mind, and although they came very close to that, I was offered the 245 PS engine at the same price as it could be sourced more quickly.

I asked the (inexperienced) salesman if this was the Performance Pack edition, he says 'no it is just the engine you don't get anything else'. The VW website is no help, when you spec the 245 engine it doesn't seem to add anything to the included spec.

Anyone able to shed any light? Also I would love to see any pics you may have of the Tungsten Silver, they had a 1.4 TSI in the colour and it looked great but would like to see it with the red detailing.

Many thanks in advance.

If it definitely says 245PS on the order form then it's definitely at Performance Pack GTI so will have the bigger brakes and the awesome VAQ diff.
Unfortunately the VW website is notoriously full of vagaries and errors, you'll get much better info on here.
Tungsten looks great on GTI's, it really compliments the black and red accents and looks very classy. It should be a pretty easy colour to look after too.
Talk-torque and McMaddy on here have Tungsten GTI's (pre facelift but you'll get the idea)

And welcome aboard.

"sourced more quickly" I hope you are right. I ordered a GTI Performance a month ago, as soon as the car was available to be ordered. With my current build week it will be a September delivery.

I'm surprised that the GTI Performance is available so soon as it was only available to order in the UK 1 month ago. (Details in my sig below.) The standard GTI has been available for about 3 months (I think). And standard cars are starting to be delivered now.

The 245 PS engine is the GTI Performance. In addition to 15 PS more power it has 20 Nm more torque, a VAQ electronically controlled mechanical limited slip differential, larger brakes with GTI printed on the red callipers and red GTI badges.

Maybe the car that the OP is getting is one that the dealer had already ordered that isn't 'locked down' in the system yet so the spec could be 'tweaked' to what the OP wanted.

Some options can add to the build timescales. The OP hasn't said what spec they ordered, but if it's fairly standard, that could be why estimated delivery is earlier than your expected September delivery.

Many thanks for the info and welcome folks.

The dealership said the car was already on order for the group of dealerships and was reallocated to me. I have now been given and order number this morning although they said it may take a few days to appear on the system.

Just checked the order form and it is 100% a 245 performance. I assume the salesman, who was a decent chap but had only been in the job for a month, just didn't know there were a few extras with the uprated engine.

I am trading in my Fiesta ST, which is an amazing car in my opinion, however it is to small and to be honest is a bit too lairy looking for a man of my years.  Looking forward to the more refined GTI.

On the Tungsten Silver, I wanted pearl black, iridium or the lighter silver but having found some pictures online it is definitely growing on me!! They had a completely standard Tornado Red in stock, so there are some cars to be had straight away.

Edit, They also had a pearl black standard with the leather interior upgrade available in July. For me the standard seats look a lot better therefore this wasn't an option for me.

I think you'll really like Tungsten Silver when you see it in the flesh and as Daz Auto has said, it's easy to maintain.

Agree with you on the standard seats. Had the grey tartan in my mk6 GTD and have the red tartan in my Polo GTI and I really like them, and IMO they brighten up the interior nicely.

The waiting begins........but not too long

Yes I don't like waiting for cars...

When I bought my ST, I ended up taking a stock white over the ST blue because it was in stock. Big mistake in hindsight, would never buy a white car again. Although I did a test drive in a white CS yesterday and caught myself thinking about buying it!

Back on topic, I've just been reading about the problems with fog lights, has this been cleared up yet? I wonder if it will affect my order.

Any particular reason you wanted the GTI Performance? The majority of drivers will not notice the difference in daily driving.

The standard seats are nice. Though - having seen some good photos - the Art Velour seats and door trim, give the interior a more premium look.

... it was Exonian who said that, but I agree. It is probably the easiest colour to keep. After agonising for weeks I decided it was too conservative a colour for my GTI. Should a grey haired old man like me be getting a red GTI - having seen a few on the road - absolutely!

Great news, thanks.

Regarding the Performance, I didn't go into the dealership wanting the performance. I had agreed a price on the standard build on Carwow and popped in for a test drive. Ended up test driving a CS which was probably a bad idea.

When we were discussing the finance/delivery etc they offered me the Tungsten Silver with the PP at £250 more with the quicker delivery. They then threw in the paint protection (I think its called Protech) at no extra cost to sweeten the deal. I wouldn't normally bother with that kind of thing but seems like a no brainer for free?

So to summarise, I would have happily ordered a standard, but got the billy bonus PP for slightly more. Paid a shade over 25k with the additional rear tints, I'm sure there are people with a better price but I was happy with it overall given I live in the far, far north and there are usually very few discounts up here as there isn't the competition.
