I'm not bothered by that. I can remote wipe my phone if necessary. If someone takes off in my car it's impossible to hide where I've been and how long it took to get there.

I will sort some pictures of my installation.

Right, I get you now. I thought you meant you didn't want the police to know if they stopped you or something.

Ha I'm far from an international man of mystery, but some of my work locations are sensitive so I'd rather keep that private if I can.

Anyway photos:

I have the climate screen so it's quite reflective, the camera is not easy to see.

The lane assist box is quite large so I really wanted to get a small camera, I'm really pleased with the viofo.

Should you be recording visiting them via dashcam then?

I've got one of these http://www.techmoan.com/blog/2016/11/2/dashcam-review-viofo-a119-simple-capable-capacitor-camera.html

Works brilliantly and is really small.

If I decide to just go for the basic functionality of decent quality images this could tempt me as not too much of a risk at circa £80 and reviews and quality are all pretty positive.

Do you just use the USB as power?

No I have a power supply that I've hard wired in. There is no cables visible apart from the very end which connects to the camera base.

These threads are really useful as they buy you some time to think through what trying to achieve as well as what tech would fulfill that need.

Think what want to achieve is to just add some protection to the idiot moment while driving along, much like described in this thread.

GPS: Think the GPS is more of an intrusion than benefit as can readily describe, screenshot from map etc. location which would be ratified by any video captured. - agree?

Rear View Camera: Rear collisions are pretty clear cut so rear camera is more nice to have than essential - agree?

Parking Mode: Biggest dilemma, as can see the benefit for parking knocks, but view is limited.

Also in catching the toe rag who may want to break in but who will likely steal the camera! - Think nice to have but not essential. - agree?

Tech: The A119 does seem to tick what trying to achieve, a good quality image and a low profile, non intrusive camera (as images support)

couple of questions:

Do you use the motion detection at all?

What was the hardwired kit you used? seems a lot out there of suspect quality, so be nice to have a recommendation as do think this camera be best hardwired to ignition.

In response to your points -

GPS: I agree, it doesn't really add much anything that I want from my dashcam

Rear View Camera: I am thinking of getting a second camera to monitor the rear but I don't see the need to have it connected to the front. It's a lot of extra cabling for little gain. These cameras are pretty cheap and easy to wire in if you aren't afraid of taking your car apart a little bit.

Parking Mode: I've not got this, can see the benefit but it's not something I really wanted but it would be nice to have.

Do you use the motion detection at all? My camera is only live when the ignition is on. It has lane assist but as my car is fitted with that I turned it off.

What was the hardwired kit you used? I bought this kit from this seller http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VIOFO-2K-HD-1440P-Car-Dash-DVR-Camera-Video-Recorder-Cam-GPS-5V-Park-Hard-Wire-/131924515268?hash=item1eb75059c4:g:HpMAAOSwCfdXo~CV It's been in for a number of months and I've not had any issues with it so far.

I hope these help you out

Stupid  question alert...do you leave dashcam in your car overnight or not..just had one fitted today and don't know whether to put it in parked mode and leave in or take out.
