Well, I went into Chelmsford and I got offered a £35k GTI for £31k, didn't really press anything further as I was a bit taken by the Clubsport they had in the showroom :)  The one in the showroom was a three door but they had a five door that had been delivered.  The five door didn't have buckets but they can get hold of one with them, price wise was about £35k without any discount and they are not allowed to discount them.  Am I mad to spend that sort of money when GTi's have got such good discounts on them?

If you can find one you could pick up a low spec R for £27k.

I know where I'd rather park my money.

GTI's are great value right now if you're just going for absolute basic spec and can get one for sub £23k. There are a few in the system still (just a few mind you) but not for much longer as they've all pretty much been built now. 7.5 production is ready to roll very very soon so 7's are just about finished.

That doesn't give me a lot of confidence in retained values

Well I decided to go for a cheaper GTI, got a good deal with VW Ipswich and pick it up on Saturday :)  My thinking is I'll keep an eye out later in the year if any clubsports come up although I really enjoyed the test drive so hopefully I'll bond with the GTI.
