I removed the Standard filter from the airbox on my GTD and fitted a K&N - done it with past two cars and it made a diffference. Discovered "Sport mode" on both DSG and Driving. Have been addicted to the noise since
Havent done enogh miles on the filter to know if anything has loosened up. I broke 1000 miles today though.
Personally I Don't trust engine bay induction kits, as heat bleed etc was supposedly an issue and caused performance loss on the last diesel I had (according to my research), so I kept the airbox and changed the filter, 10 min job.
YMMV -
My 1.8 Astra Petrol Auto was up from 140 BHP standard to 156 (roller tested) with K&N and derestricted VXR Intake.
My 2.0 CDTI Auto went up from 163BHP book, to 174.9, also (roller tested) Just K&N.
Both cars were running Shell VPower (unleaded or Diesel) when tested and the Rolling Road guys did more than one run to average out - it was an AON (astra owners network) jaunt, with both cars and we went to the same Rolling road.
Just ordered a replacement filter ( not K&N this time ) a piper cross.
Completely forgot I had got a pipercross panel filter in too as well as removing the snow filter. Just need to remove the plastic blocking the drivers side vent into the airbox.
