Drove mine a bit today, only very early impressions. Its very stable at speed to such an extent that I didn't realise how quick I was going. I've driven every variant of the golf and this one definitely it harder and faster than the rest. Where to start, steering is as already mentioned very solid compared to any other golf. The engine propels the car at a rapid rate beyond the rest of the range when over 4000rpm. At the same time the car feels more planted and confidence inspiring than a GTI PP and without the weight of the R its easy to underestimate the speed. There is no wobble and the wheels do not feel like they are fighting for traction. I've yet to notice any torque steer but its early days and I'm sure it must be there. It is possible to wheel spin due to the power but it feels very controlled so its easy to prevent it and as a result the car is not unpredictable in any way. At speed its more stable than any other gti and quite possibly an R. Brakes are epic compared to any other golf with nice feel and immense stopping power.
Is that in the dry?
Interestingly the White press car is in this week's Autocar and is on normal Pirelli p zero tyres for winter.
You need to buy this issue as CSS has another awesome accolade and is one their favorite 3 cars of 2016
Awesome I might pick up a copy. Yes it was pretty dry hadn't rained all day and I took it out about 5ish. The roads were still damp enough for the tarmac to look black rather than grey if that makes sense and the tyres were cold. We handed over ours today all at the same time so was lovely to see all the other enthusiasts and chat about their plans for the cars. We put a few xmas pressies in the boot for them but they were most impressed with the copy of EVO ecoty edition we gave them with the car. Here's a pic of the 4 we supplied in pride of place in our handover showroom:
