Group of four guys turned up around 8pm in what looks like a subaru, broke in to the house and took the keys there were three of us and dog in at the time but didn't hear a thing. They returned later around 10pm and took the car.

A friend had his ST Focus stolen in Birmingham by 4 guys balaclava'd up with baseball bats at 2.00pm whilst parked outside a restaurant. They were driving an Audi A3, 2 kept guard, one driver and one guy smashed side window then using OBD to start the car.....gone in 60 seconds!!

It always seems to be Coventry/Dudley/Birmingham where people are getting their cars pinched by gangs - what are the bobbies doing around there. Over half the Rs reportedly stolen on the R forum are from around those areas.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Sorry to hear that Je, seems like some really cocky so and so's. Mine went last May, bit more of a smash and grab though still entered the property. Got another car but still bemoaning the loss of my cherished plate, had been in the family over 50 years. Hope you get good news.

Sorry to hear about the theft.  I believe there is a way too get the private plate back,  Just contact the dvla, especially if you still have the V5. Just don't put it back on another white mk7 gti.

I think the Fords are prone to the OBD reset, thankfully not heard of any performance golfs going this way.
Im not sure whats worse when they are breaking into houses for keys. Scum, the police need to really clamp down, i wonder what the sentence is for getting caught, not enough id suggest.

Thanks ajmoir36, they say I need to wait 12 months then apply ...in fact one dvla person I spoke to said i would have to prove I knew where the car was for the application to be successful....I did try to explain that if I knew where it was I wouldn't be need to be ringing...

Sad news. Hope it all gets sorted. I had a car stolen earlier this year (from Birmingham as well!!) and the guy used a tow truck to get it away. Only found out when we checked local CCTV the following morning. Police said it is most likely gone and they wouldn't really bother looking into it until Monday morning (theft happened on a Friday night). Was so frustrating but as I had GAP insurance it enabled me to get a shiny new MK7 instead, so it all turned out OK in the end I guess :-)

Sorry to hear about the car but what puzzles me is how come you know so much detail, when no one heard a thing?

Maybe the OP has CCTV at their home - not uncommon these days. If so it's likely it would have recorded the earlier break-in and the later car theft.

Good point, maybe if he had 'advertised' the fact, with pir lighting he would still have a car
