Agreed, I sold my R last week as I have a Clubsport on order.
They may not be the all round package an R is, but they are very special in my eyes and as you say, they are going to be rare, which the R is certainly not. And I've got to keep my record going as I've had all the GTI anniversary models - 20th, 25th, 30th and 35th!
Will be interesting how many there are made, the fact it is not the all round packages is why it appeals.
I think like the Ed35 it took me some time to get the Clubsport was about
I get the ClubSport, and it does look like a proper special edition, and as owners delight in telling us - it has special front discs and 'improved handling'. It can also be specced with a sunroof and rear doors which will negate all handling and weight saving benefits! Not that i'm cynical or anything.

The ClubSport has given the GTI a much needed boost.
As for the ED35, five years on I still don't get that one. A real half arsed effort by VW.
