The Golf GTI's 2WD hot hatch peers from Ford, Honda, Renault etc are all well above 220ps now. 250ps+ for a 2.0T Golf-sized hatchback are the norm now.

OP nice review I clicked specifically because this wasn't about something we see reviewed by owners every day, small eco petrol engines are the way of the future (short to medium term) and anything light and refinded with the same torgue is pretty much all we need for sensible driving. On the back of this I had a look at the new Q2 today on the net but it doesn't appear they are selling it with the 1ltr engine, which i thought was odd as it would be ideal for that Q2.

I think its going to be available in the Q2 but not straight away, we had to wait three months before it was available in the PI A3.
I agree about the GTi comment and if you want a faster GTi buy a Golf R/CS
