i was given the option of the 3 colours, and was asked if i wanted a/c or not..

My options were white, with a/c and the car is confirmed at BW42

I am build week 41

Black with a/c (no choice on colour)

Expressed interest with the dealer on 8/6 just after my friend came back from the 'ring launch event and simply said 'WTF' when he described the day.
Emailed a couple of dealers off the beaten track thinking I'd get less competition but didn't work out like that, a sales manager in Wales said he wanted one so names would have to go in the hat.
Didn't fancy that so tried one in the South West who was really helpful when I enquired about a normal CS.
Didn't hear anything until early August when I was told I had an allocation.
He was more excited than I was as other dealers in the area didn't get one (no surprise, 150 cars, 175 dealers, some getting up to 6)
I didn't get a colour choice but I put this down to my dealer being very low in the pecking order and not part of one of the big groups like Inchcape for example.
Apparently (and I have heard this from more than one source), VW UK wanted the names of the buyers and decided who got what. I am not sure how they knew who was who or on what basis they decided who got what but I can't see how it would stop speculators, didn't stop it at Porsche did it?

I too am very concerned that the VW behemoth will not be able to give buyers of these cars the level of service that these cars justify - for example not washing them with a gritty sponge during the PDI process along with all the lease cars.

We've all paid full whack for these cars so VW should have the budget to make the process special but I honestly can't see that happening.

They could start with some literature about the car to get us excited while we wait, maybe a compilation of road tests.
There should be a special gift with the car at handover.
Maybe arrange a track day for owners with some pro-drivers (WRC drivers?!)

Many years ago quattro GmbH organised an RS drivers day at Hockenheim and a number of UK guys attended.

Incidentally the VW UK head of PR was at Porsche GB until recently so knows the score when it comes to dealing with niche cars, let's hope it filters down!

More Chinese whispers, not a chance that happened, it was first come first served, there were still slots available on the 28th July, so they didn't sell out as quickly as people think!

I contacted 3 dealers in June and 2 said not a chance.  OK that doesn't mean other dealers wouldn't have allocation but how do you find out?

When you say 'slots available on 28th July' are you talking nationally or a specific retailer?

How do you know if it was first come first serviced if you ordered in May/June/July and didn't get notification you'd got a car until August?

This is an email sent 1st August from VW to my dealer confirming their allocation specifically for the customer's  order that they had submitted previously;

Re Golf Clubsport S order

I can now confirm you have been allocated a Golf Clubsport S for the order you have taken for your customer.  This will be in line with the colour you confirmed to me (Black).  This vehicle order has just been placed with the factory and is awaiting a build week, but we anticipate this vehicle should be with you sometime in Q4.

So many different stories ... I read the Ring Article on PH 20th July and walked into my local dealership that afternoon and gave them £500 and that was it - Clubsport S ordered - i asked had they had any other orders, they said "No" just interested parties but until Price/Spec were released no-one wanted to put any money down, so i was the first "real" CS-S order - I found out in the next few days that it was Black ... I contacted my Porsche group and got put in touch with Group VW dealership as ideally i wanted a Red car. I was told on the 1st of August 2016 there were only 7 allocation slots left in UK and all in Black - all these slots were gone by the 3rd ... So just stayed with my original Order although i was tempted to buy 2 ...

Interesting, so black was definitely the last slots.
I've got an order number but still haven't paid a deposit, dealer obviously not too fussed if I don't take delivery!

How did you find out how many slots were available nationally? Could your dealer just select them or did they have  a fixed allocation?
